Rockwood vs Flagstaff is mostly a choice of name, not of trailer. Forest River sells both, and for 2027 every Rockwood travel trailer or hybrid floor plan with published figures has a Flagstaff twin with the same length, unloaded weight, hitch weight and cargo capacity. Shop the floor plan, then compare actual trailers and prices under both names.

Rockwood line (2027)Flagstaff twinFloor plans in eachLength and UVW

Roo (expandable hybrid)Shamrock224' 10"; 4,976 to 5,478 lb

SignatureClassic536' 8" to 41' 10"; 9,858 to 11,259 lb

Figures are Forest River's exterior length and unloaded vehicle weight (UVW) for 2027 travel trailers and hybrids, read on 27 October 2026. Each Rockwood plan's twin has identical figures, so one range covers both names. Forest River's floor plan pages show no MSRP, so prices are not compared here.

How this comparison was made

Searchshop matched the two brands using Forest River's own published specifications, not inspections or test tows. For each of the ten 2027 lines in the table, the comparison reads Forest River's line page and its printable floor plan list, which gives hitch weight, UVW, cargo carrying capacity (CCC) and exterior length for every plan. All pages were read on 27 October 2026.

A Rockwood plan and a Flagstaff plan count as twins here only when all four published figures match. Every one of the 44 Rockwood plans with figures matched exactly one Flagstaff plan, and no plan with figures was left without a twin. Two floor plan pairs were also opened in full, the Mini Lite 2109S against the Micro Lite 21FBRS and the Ultra Lite 301FKT against the Super Lite 30FKT, to compare descriptions, tanks and dimensions.

Forest River defines UVW as the "typical weight of the unit as manufactured at the factory" and calls it an estimated average based on standard build. It also says a label showing the actual unit's UVW and CCC is applied to every trailer before it leaves the factory. Use that label, not the brochure figure, when matching a trailer to your tow vehicle.

Are Rockwood and Flagstaff the same trailers?

Rockwood and Flagstaff trailers are presented by Forest River as the same floor plans under two names, with matching published figures and near-identical descriptions and features lists. The paired line pages carry the same introduction with only the name changed. The Rockwood Mini Lite page opens "NO LONGER DO YOU NEED A LARGE TRUCK TO TOW A TRAILER", and so does the Flagstaff Micro Lite page.

Forest River's Flagstaff pages also refer to Rockwood model numbers. The Flagstaff Micro Lite features list includes a "35K BTU Furnace (20K BTU 2109S, 2108RB)", which are Rockwood Mini Lite plan codes. The Flagstaff Classic list notes "100" wide unit body (NA 8336BH)", a Rockwood Signature code, and the Flagstaff E-Pro list mentions the Geo Pro "G20RBS".

The two floor plan pairs opened in full use the same description, word for word apart from the brand name and plan code. The Mini Lite 2109S and Micro Lite 21FBRS both describe a "60" X 74" queen bed" and a "72" sofa slide", and both list a 53-gallon fresh tank and 29-gallon gray and black tanks. The Ultra Lite 301FKT and Super Lite 30FKT are both described as "a slide-free, wide body travel trailer", 101 inches wide, with 54-gallon fresh, 90-gallon gray and 45-gallon black tanks.

Rockwood Mini Lite vs Flagstaff Micro Lite

The Mini Lite and Micro Lite are the mid-size twins, with 14 floor plans each for 2027 running from 22' 2" to 25' 10". Forest River pitches both as trailers that do not need a large truck. The table pairs each plan by its published figures, lightest first.

2513S25BSDS25' 10"6,008 lb (720 lb)
2523MBR25MBR25' 9"6,123 lb (745 lb)

Forest River lists the Mini Lite 2526BS and the Micro Lite 25KBS with no figures yet, so they cannot be matched by figures. For layouts, tanks and features of each Mini Lite plan, see Searchshop's Rockwood Mini Lite floor plans guide; each twin above shares its Mini Lite plan's figures.

Rockwood Ultra Lite vs Flagstaff Super Lite

The Ultra Lite and Super Lite are the larger twins, with 11 floor plans each from 29' 8" to 35' 4". Both line pages say the series offers space and amenities "most while remaining towable by a half-ton vehicle", so check the specific plan's weights against your truck.

Rockwood Ultra LiteFlagstaff Super LiteLengthUVW (hitch weight)

2921RL29FBRL35' 4"8,143 lb (820 lb)
2916RL29KSRL35' 4"8,348 lb (920 lb)

Forest River groups the 301FKT and 302RDT, and their Flagstaff twins the 30FKT and 30RDT, as "Wide Body" travel trailers. Searchshop's guide to half-ton towable travel trailers explains how to check those weights against a truck's payload and towing ratings.

Rockwood Geo Pro vs Flagstaff E-Pro

The Geo Pro and E-Pro are the smallest twins, with 13 floor plans each from 14' 11" to 21' 2". Both line pages describe "Bigger off road tires with a great standard solar package". Forest River splits each line into LE plans and standard travel trailers, and its features lists show the LE plans use leaf-spring axles while the others use Torflex axles.

Rockwood Roo vs Flagstaff Shamrock, and Signature vs Classic

The Roo and Shamrock are Forest River's twin expandable hybrids, and the Signature and Classic are the largest twin travel trailers. Both hybrid pages describe "drop-down bunks featuring heated mattresses", and the two hybrid plans keep the same codes under both names.

Both Signature and Classic features lists include a residential-style gas range, a 12-gallon water heater and dual 15K BTU air conditioners installed, with a 110V residential-style refrigerator except on the 8336BH, which gets a 12V unit.

What differs between Rockwood and Flagstaff

The differences Forest River publishes between Rockwood and Flagstaff are small and plan-specific. The clearest are the badge and the plan codes, since the same layout carries a different code in four of the five line pairs. A dealer quoting a Micro Lite 25MBR is quoting the twin of the Mini Lite 2523MBR.

A few spec entries also differ. The Rockwood Mini Lite features list says "Fully Laminated Walkable Roof" where the Flagstaff Micro Lite says "Fully Laminated Roof", and the Mini Lite 2109S page gives an exterior height of 10' 3" against 10' 5" for the Micro Lite 21FBRS. The Ultra Lite 301FKT and Super Lite 30FKT pages give the same 11' 3" height. Ask the dealer to confirm roof and height details on the trailer you are buying.

None of the Forest River pages read for this article describe differences in exterior graphics, interior colors or warranty between the two names, so judge decor in person. The twin naming also runs beyond travel trailers: Forest River lists Rockwood Signature and Flagstaff Classic fifth wheels, and Rockwood and Flagstaff tent and A-frame campers; this article did not compare their figures.

Which one should you buy?

The better buy is the trailer, Rockwood or Flagstaff, with the right floor plan, the weights your vehicle can handle and the best price. A simple way to decide:

  1. Pick the size. Geo Pro or E-Pro for the smallest trailers, Mini Lite or Micro Lite for 22' 2" to 25' 10", Ultra Lite or Super Lite for 29' 8" to 35' 4", and Signature or Classic for the largest.
  2. Find the twin code. Use the tables above so you can search for both versions of the same floor plan.
  3. Check the label. Compare the UVW and CCC on the actual trailer's label with your vehicle's towing and payload ratings.
  4. Compare out-the-door prices. Because the published figures match, the asking price, model year, options and dealer are the main things that separate two twins, apart from small spec entries such as roof wording and height.

Frequently asked questions

Are Rockwood and Flagstaff made by the same company?

Yes, Rockwood and Flagstaff are both Forest River brands, and both appear on Forest River's own travel trailer brands list. For 2027 its travel trailer and hybrid lines come in pairs, such as the Rockwood Mini Lite and Flagstaff Micro Lite, and each Rockwood floor plan with published figures has a Flagstaff twin with the same length, unloaded weight, hitch weight and cargo capacity.

Is Rockwood better than Flagstaff?

Rockwood is not better than Flagstaff on Forest River's published figures, because each twin pair shares the same length, weights and cargo capacity. The paired features lists are nearly word for word the same. A few entries differ, such as roof wording on the Mini Lite and Micro Lite pages, so compare the specific trailers, their options and their prices instead of the badge.

What is the Flagstaff version of the Rockwood Mini Lite?

The Flagstaff Micro Lite is the twin of the Rockwood Mini Lite. Both have 14 floor plans for 2027, and each Mini Lite plan with published figures matches a Micro Lite plan, such as the Mini Lite 2109S and the Micro Lite 21FBRS, which share a 22' 4" length, 4,472 lb UVW and 557 lb hitch weight.

Do Rockwood and Flagstaff use the same floor plan numbers?

Rockwood and Flagstaff mostly use different floor plan codes for the same layout. The Ultra Lite 2621RB, for example, matches the Super Lite 26FBRB, and the Signature 8336BH matches the Classic 832BWS. Only the Roo and Shamrock hybrids share codes, the 233S and 235S, so check a twin table before assuming two trailers differ.
