Chaparral vs Four Winns comes down to size class, hull shape and warranty, because the two bowrider lineups overlap from about 21 to 30 feet in engine-inside and outboard versions. Chaparral's hulls have steeper deadrise and a five-year component warranty. Four Winns publishes starting prices, builds a 20-foot H1 and carries more fuel from 26 feet up.

Lengths, person capacities and fuel capacities are the builders' published figures, read from their US websites on 22 October 2026. Four Winns gives length overall without its extended swim platform; Chaparral gives most lengths with the swim platform and its OSX outboard lengths with the engines. Chaparral's site refers to its current boats as 2027 models; Four Winns' model pages do not state a model year.

How this comparison was made

Each Four Winns H-Series bowrider from 20 to 30 feet was paired with the Chaparral closest to it in length and drive type, so that the differences come from the builder rather than the size of the boat. Every figure comes from the builders' own model, specification, options, price and warranty pages, read on 22 October 2026, and a second, separate check re-read each one. Nothing here comes from test drives or sea trials, and neither brand is called better overall.

Some figures are measured differently, so they are not compared across brands. Four Winns lists "Displacement w/ engine," while Chaparral lists "Dry Weight w/ Engines," so weights are left out. Lengths are also measured to different points, as noted under the table, so a one-foot gap on paper may not be a one-foot gap on the water. Deadrise, beam, fuel capacity and maximum horsepower rating are given the same way by both builders and are compared; person counts are each builder's published capacity figure.

How do the Four Winns and Chaparral lineups match up?

Four Winns sells one bowrider family, the H-Series, while Chaparral's US site lists six series: SSi, SSi Outboard, SSX, OSX, Surf Series and GTS. Four Winns says the H-Series was "introduced in 2022" and calls its vertical stem "a defining element of the H-Series."

  • Four Winns H-Series: the H1, H2, H4, H6, H9 and H33, each in an engine-inside version and an OB outboard version, from 20' 1" to 35' 6". Four Winns also lists Freedom versions of the H1, H2 and H4.
  • Chaparral SSi and SSi OB: the 21 SSi and 23 SSi and the 21 SSi OB and 23 SSi OB, which Chaparral calls sport boats, from 21' to 23' 6".
  • Chaparral SSX: the SSX 4, SSX 4 OB, SSX 6, SSX 8 and SSX 30, which Chaparral calls luxury sport boats, from 24' 6" to 30' 2".
  • Chaparral OSX: the 250, 270, 280 and 310 OSX, which Chaparral calls luxury outboards, listed from 26' 6" to 32' 6".

Four Winns also builds the HD-Series, which it describes as deck boats with "a more traditional v-bottom hull." For how that layout differs from a bowrider, see bowrider vs deck boat.

20- to 22-foot bowriders: H1 and H2 vs 21 SSi

Four Winns builds a 20-foot bowrider that is shorter than any Chaparral SSi, SSX or OSX model, and at 21 to 22 feet the two builders match on capacity and fuel. The Four Winns H1 is 20' 1" long with an 8' 4" beam, an 18-degree deadrise, 32 gallons of fuel, room for 11 people and a 280 hp maximum rating. The H1 OB shares those dimensions with a 200 hp maximum. Chaparral's shortest SSi models are the 21 SSi and 21 SSi OB.

The Four Winns H2 is 22' long with an 8' 4" beam, an 18-degree deadrise, 40 gallons of fuel, room for 12 people and a 300 hp maximum rating. The Chaparral 21 SSi is 21' long with the same 8' 4" beam, a 20-degree deadrise, 40 gallons of fuel, room for 12 and a 250 hp maximum.

The outboard pair follows the same pattern. The Four Winns H2 OB is 22' long with 40 gallons, room for 12 and a 250 hp maximum. The Chaparral 21 SSi OB is 21' 6" long with 40 gallons, room for 12, a 20-degree deadrise and a 200 hp maximum.

24-foot bowriders: H4 vs 23 SSi and SSX 4

At about 24 feet, both builders seat 13 people, and the Four Winns has the higher horsepower rating while the Chaparral has the steeper deadrise. The Four Winns H4 is 23' 11" long with an 8' 4" beam, an 18-degree deadrise, 52 gallons of fuel and a 350 hp maximum. The Chaparral 23 SSi is 23' long with an 8' 6" beam, a 20-degree deadrise, 50 gallons of fuel and a 300 hp maximum.

Chaparral's step-up at this size is the SSX 4, at 24' 6" with an 8' 6" beam, a 20-degree deadrise, 60 gallons of fuel, room for 13 and a 350 hp maximum, the same rating as the H4.

In outboards, the Four Winns H4 OB is 23' 11" long with 52 gallons, room for 13 and a 300 hp maximum. The Chaparral 23 SSi OB is 23' 6" long with an 8' 6" beam, 56 gallons, room for 13 and a 250 hp maximum. Chaparral's 250 OSX is 24' 6" with the swim platform and 26' 6" with the engine, with 60 gallons, room for 14 and a 300 hp maximum.

26-foot bowriders: H6 vs SSX 6 and 270 OSX

In the 26-foot class, the Four Winns boats carry far more fuel and the Chaparrals have a steeper 22-degree deadrise. The Four Winns H6 is 26' 2" long with an 8' 4" beam, an 18-degree deadrise, 100 gallons of fuel and a 350 hp maximum, and its deck plan includes a head compartment. The Chaparral SSX 6 is 26' 5" long with an 8' 6" beam, a 22-degree deadrise, 65 gallons of fuel and a 380 hp maximum. Both are listed as Yacht Certified instead of with a person count.

The Four Winns H6 OB is also 26' 2" long with 100 gallons and a 350 hp maximum. The Chaparral 270 OSX is 27' long with its engines, with an 8' 6" beam, a 22-degree deadrise, 65 gallons, room for 14 people and a 350 hp maximum.

30-foot bowriders: H9 vs SSX 30

At 30 feet, the Four Winns H9 has a higher horsepower rating, more fuel and fold-out side terraces, while the Chaparral SSX 30 has a steeper deadrise. The Four Winns H9 is 29' 11" long with a 9' 1" beam, a 17.4-degree deadrise, 120 gallons of fuel and a 600 hp maximum. Four Winns says it has "Elegant Side Terraces as standard," and lists its beam with the terraces lowered at 12' 10".

The Chaparral SSX 30 is 30' 2" long with a 9' beam, a 22-degree deadrise, 100 gallons of fuel and a 430 hp maximum. Both are Yacht Certified. Above this size, Four Winns lists the H33 and H33 OB, and Chaparral the 280 OSX and 310 OSX outboards.

Engines: what each builder lists

Chaparral's options pages name the engine brands offered, while Four Winns' H-Series model pages give only a maximum horsepower rating. Chaparral's options pages show these choices:

  • 21 SSi: Mercury 4.5L sterndrives of 200 and 250 hp, or Volvo V-6 sterndrives of 200 and 250 hp.
  • 21 SSi OB: Mercury or Yamaha four-stroke outboards of 150 or 200 hp.
  • 250 OSX: Mercury four-stroke outboards of 250 hp or a 300 hp Mercury Verado, or Yamaha outboards of 250 or 300 hp.

On the H-Series pages read for this article, Four Winns names engine brands only for its surf versions, covered below. Ask a Four Winns dealer which engines each H-Series model is offered with before comparing a quote. For how drive types differ, see inboard vs outboard vs sterndrive.

Surf boats: Four Winns Surf Package vs Chaparral GTS

Both builders sell surf boats, and both name Mercury and Volvo forward drives for them. Four Winns offers its Surf Package on the H2, H4 and H6, and says it features "Forward Drive systems from Mercury and Volvo Penta." Chaparral builds the GTS series as separate models, and says the GTS 3 is "powered by Volvo or Mercruiser forward drive technology."

The Chaparral GTS 3 is 23' long with an 8' 6" beam, 50 gallons of fuel, room for 13 people and a 300 hp maximum. The GTS 6 is 26' 5" long, Yacht Certified, with 65 gallons and a 430 hp maximum. Four Winns' surf versions share the lengths of the H2, H4 and H6. Neither builder's pages read for this article give a ballast weight. For dedicated inboard wake boats, see the wake boat buying guide.

Warranty: Chaparral vs Four Winns

Chaparral states a five-year component warranty, and Four Winns states three years. Chaparral's warranty page says "All 2027 Chaparral models come with a Lifetime Limited Hull Warranty and 5-Year Premium limited component warranty - standard."

Four Winns' Winning Edge warranty page says its factory warranty "covers material, labor, and most boat components for three years, with certain exceptions," that the trailer warranty is limited to one year, and that "A prorated warranty covers osmotic hull blistering for five years." The page does not state a hull structural warranty term. Four Winns says its warranty is transferable but adds that "Not all of the Winning Edge limited warranty is transferable," so ask the dealer for the full documents from both builders before you buy.

What do Chaparral and Four Winns bowriders cost?

Four Winns publishes starting prices on its US model pages, while the Chaparral model pages read for this article show no price, so the two cannot be compared side by side. Four Winns lists these starting prices, as MSRP excluding tax, on 22 October 2026:

  • H1: $63,965; H1 OB: $60,220
  • H2: $97,770; H2 OB: $92,390
  • H4: $112,300; H4 OB: $112,045
  • H6: $129,875; H6 OB: $144,175
  • H9: $253,760

Four Winns' online configurator says only the dealer can give a final offer "including applicable fees, transportation, preparation, sales taxes, title, and registration fees," so expect the delivered price to be higher. Chaparral's GTS 3 page lists related models with the note "See Your Local Dealer For Pricing." Ask dealers for both brands for an out-the-door price on the same size, drive and engine.

Which one should you buy?

Start with the size and drive you want, then weigh hull, fuel and warranty within that pair.

  • A bowrider of about 20 feet: Four Winns' H1 and H1 OB, at 20' 1", are shorter than any Chaparral SSi, SSX or OSX model.
  • A steeper deadrise: Chaparral's bowriders compared here run 20 to 22 degrees, against 18 degrees for the H1 to H6 and 17.4 degrees for the H9.
  • More fuel at 26 to 30 feet: the H6 and H6 OB carry 100 gallons against 65 for the SSX 6 and 270 OSX, and the H9 carries 120 against 100 for the SSX 30.
  • A longer stated component warranty: Chaparral states five years for its 2027 models; Four Winns states three.
  • A published starting price: Four Winns lists starting prices for its H-Series models; the Chaparral model pages read here show none.
  • Buying used: check the boat's model year against the builder's specifications for that year, and use the used boat inspection checklist before you buy.
