Ford Super Duty tire rotation was above their skill level. Have you ever been told to take your vehicle somewhere else because the mechanics at Ford cannot do a tire rotation because they apparently do not know of and cannot afford to buy the correct tools for the job. I took my 2023 Ford Super Duty truck in for oil service and tire rotation 10-17. Apparently Briarwood Ford mechanics only know of a sledge hammer to loosen a stuck wheel and when that does not work they have no other automotive tool or mechanical knowledge. A stuck wheel is pretty common and their solution is a sledge hammer. Talked to manager after service writer told me to take it somewhere else and they even suggested I loosen the lug nuts and drive down a bumpy road. Yep, the service writer said that in front of another service write too. I told them it was done just two oil changes ago at another Ford Dealer. Manager said they don’t have tools to do it and suggested I bring it back for a “senior mechanic” to beat on it as they do not have either mechanical tool or the wheel separator air bag device (Ken Tool shark fin dually separator kit. They just have a crow bar and sledge hammer. So I went on-line looked for the “proper tool” and spent only $49.00 on Amazon for next day shipping for a well known tool called a Dually Separator Kit. Apparently Ford Dealers are not aware of this magical mechanics tool. Not only did I not need a sledge hammer, I did not need an impact driver. A simple wrench on the tool after spraying the axle and wheels with a penetrating spray and with hand pressure I broke the wheels free from the axle and did my own super duty tire rotation and now will do so in the future instead of having Ford mechanics beat on my truck. Thanks to Ford employees not knowing how to use the correct tools for the job at hand, and telling me I need to go to a third party shop instead of having service done by Ford I learned how to a dually rotation and will myself 150.00 every oil change and do it myself. Win for me in the end. I will keep the tool in my truck for any roadside flat, as I am sure any knucklehead in a service truck will haul out their sledge hammer too.
