We recently received a 2025 Grand Design Transcend 305BHT travel trailer through a generous donation by Samaritan’s Purse after our home was severely damaged in a flood. I purchased a 2017 Momentum 350 from Blue Compass RV in Boerne, Texas, in September 2025. Thomas, the salesperson, was very helpful and knowledgeable—he patiently showed us everything we asked to see, and the sales experience was positive overall. However, during the delivery walkthrough, the initial technician seemed unfamiliar with many aspects of the RV. Fortunately, another gentleman stepped in and was able to demonstrate most of the features, though I ended up having to explain a few items to him myself. While this was a bit disappointing, we managed to get through the orientation. We took delivery with two full propane tanks, which was appreciated. After returning from our second trip, I discovered a propane leak in one of the hoses connected to the tank. I promptly removed the tank and hose and took them to a local propane dealer, where I was able to purchase a replacement hose. Unfortunately, the dealer informed me that they could not refill the tank because it had expired—it was originally manufactured in 1997 and would not pass current safety inspection standards. Upon checking, I found that the second tank was in the same condition. I understand that it’s ultimately my responsibility to verify details like this, and I regret not inspecting the manufacture/inspection dates more thoroughly before finalizing the purchase. That said, I was surprised that tanks of this age (nearly 30 years old) were still installed and filled in a used RV being sold by a reputable dealership. I would have expected a pre-delivery or pre-sale inspection to catch something like this, especially given the safety implications of propane systems. In hindsight, arranging an independent inspection prior to signing the paperwork would have been a wise step. This has been a frustrating and unexpected expense, but it’s definitely a valuable lesson learned for the future.

We brought our RV in for consignment, and at first, they looked it over and said everything seemed fine but they claimed there was water damage, something I was never aware of. I asked how much it would cost to repair, thinking we could pay to get it fixed. They told me around $20,000 because they’d have to pull up the whole roof and redo the inside. Then I was advised to call my insurance and to just say I was bringing it in for service—not to mention it was on consignment. My insurance denied the claim. I asked Blue Compass for a repair quote directly, but they never gave me one. Instead, I got a call saying that since I wanted to sell it “as is,” they needed to lower the price. At this point, I was frustrated. I still had no clear explanation of the issue. The roof looked sealed, and I suspect any problem was from a past repair done before we even owned it. Without a repair quote and without clear communication, I decided to take my RV back. This whole experience felt like a waste of time. I was especially disappointed in being told to misrepresent the situation to my insurance company, and in the lack of transparency and integrity throughout the process. I understand if someone thinks a price is too high—but don’t make me jump through hoops, avoid giving me answers, and try to manipulate me into lowering it. My hope in this review is the team would evaluate how they treat consignment customers in the future and evaluate the mortality of their practices.
