How we research, review, and maintain the content published across the Searchshop network
Searchshop publishes buying guides, product reviews, and category roundups across marine, RV, automotive, and powersports. Every article that contains product recommendations or technical advice is reviewed by a credentialed professional before publication. This page explains exactly how that process works, what our reviewers are and aren't attesting to, and how we handle errors and updates.
If you have questions about a specific article or want to report an inaccuracy, email [email protected].
Expert review before publication
Every buying guide and product review is read by a credentialed professional in the relevant field before it goes live. Reviewers verify that technical claims are accurate, that safety guidance is sound, and that nothing is misleading or omitted.
Primary-source fact-checking
Claims are checked against primary sources: manufacturer specifications, owner manuals, USCG/NHTSA/CPSC regulatory databases, and peer-reviewed research where applicable. We do not rely solely on marketing copy.
Affiliate transparency
Some links in our content are affiliate links. When you click and buy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships never determine which products we recommend — reviewers are prohibited from approving content with undisclosed brand relationships.
Content maintenance
Product guides are reviewed and updated on a rolling basis as products are discontinued, recalled, or superseded. Articles carry a 'Last reviewed' date. Outdated information is either updated or retired.
Corrections policy
If we publish something inaccurate, we correct it promptly and transparently — with a dated correction note inline. We do not silently edit errors. If you spot a mistake, email us at the address below.
Editorial independence
Advertisers, sponsors, and affiliate partners have no influence over editorial content, reviewer selection, or product ratings. Our commercial and editorial operations are separated. A product can be featured in advertising while receiving a poor editorial rating.
When an article carries a “Reviewed by [Name, Credential]” byline, it means a credentialed professional in that field has:
Reviewers are notrequired to have personally purchased or tested every product mentioned. Think of it the way a technical editor works at a trade publication — their job is to validate that the information is technically sound based on expertise they've spent years building. An ASE master technician reviewing a brake-pad guide doesn't need to have rebuilt every caliper mentioned. A USCG captain reviewing an anchoring article doesn't need to have used every anchor brand discussed. What matters is that their professional expertise supports the technical accuracy of the content.
Reviewers must never
We commit to reviewers
Products featured in buying guides and roundups must meet all of the following criteria before they are included:
Affiliate commission rates do not influence product selection or ranking. Products are ranked by fit for the described use case, not by commission rate.
We use AI tools in the research and drafting phase of some articles — for outlining, summarizing source material, and generating first drafts that are then edited and reviewed by human editors and credentialed reviewers.
AI-generated content is not published directly. Every article goes through human editorial review and expert technical review before publication. No article carries a reviewer byline if the review was performed by an AI.
We do not use AI to fabricate product specifications, invent test results, or generate reviewer credentials.
When we publish something inaccurate, we correct it and note the correction inline with a date. We do not silently edit errors. Major corrections are noted prominently at the top of the article; minor factual updates (e.g. a price change) are noted with the “Last reviewed” date.
If you believe an article contains an error, email [email protected] with the article URL and the specific claim you believe is inaccurate. We review all correction requests and typically respond within five business days.
