Boat Buyer's Guide – Pacific Boatland

Buying a boat from Pacific Boatland in Vancouver, Washington? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.

  1. 1

Match the boat to your waters

Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Pacific Boatland which models suit the waterways near Vancouver, Washington.

  2. 2

    Inspect the hull carefully

Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.

  3. 3

    Check engine hours

Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Pacific Boatland.

  4. 4

    Request a sea trial

Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Pacific Boatland will accommodate this request.

  5. 5

    Verify title and registration

Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Pacific Boatland should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

Very disappointed in the lack of communication with the team at pacific Boatland . Called for a couple of issues I was having and was told by Mike bring in the boat we are 2-3 weeks out and we will get to it asap . Had bilge pump and wash down pump replaced. Mechanic left the empty boxes in the floor of my boat put in wash down pump never attached the hose. Dropped off my boat August 9 th and finally got a text from them on September 10th telling me it was done. Left 3 messages for Mike in August and never heard a word back from him. Not a good experience with them. I don’t plan on going back. Horrible customer service. I would not recommend.

Another amazing experience with Chris! After having our previous boat for a year we knew we needed something different for the kind of fishing we do. Chris took us through the process once again and we are delighted with our boat and him as a salesman and person. We can’t say enough about him. He’s a stellar human being who is super knowledgeable about boats and fishing. He delivers exceptional customer service. He’s become a friend as well. I frequently bug him for fishing advice. I don’t get these negative reviews. It’s like they are talking about a different place. Maybe experiences in the repair shop are not the same, but we have never had anything but the best here. Chris is outstanding. See him for your boat and tell him Bill and Susan sent you.

They seemed very friendly and helpful until they actually got to my boat. My boat is an older Reinell. After they winterized it. They said lights and horn didn't work and drive was low on oil. I asked them to fix the electric problem and add oil they refused and said my boat was to old. I was like wow to old just to add oil. I was then told they was just doing me a favor by winterizing it. But it wasn't free. I had money to pay but refused to work any further on my boat.

Dropped my boat off Monday for an overall inspection, oil and fuel filter change as it has set for 2 years. I hope to sell it or use it more. Only 16.5 hours on the main Verado motor.

I wanted to share my appreciation for Matt in the Service Department.( I think thats his name) I thought I was going to have a catastrophic engine repair as I had water in the oil on my 135hp Honda outboard. I replaced the thermostats as they were stuck open and corroded, and changed the oil and still had milky oil. Upon Matt's reccomendation, I took the boat back home and began to flush the oil until many times until I had pure clean oil in the engine. I am happy to report after flushing the engine 7 times I have nice clean oil . Thank you for the advice Matt !!
