This place is a MAJOR rip off. If you have any other option PLEASE go with it. I stored my trawler with them for a couple seasons. They will spare no effort to try to dig into your pockets. I hauled out in August one season. I'm not rich so I have to do a lot of the maintenance myself. I completed all the winterizing myself. The only thing I had left to do was to start the engine and run the antifreeze thru. I had it all set up, would have taken me only a few minutes. There was NO ONE coming out after me so it's not like I was tying up the sling. They charged me an hour of "sling time" for me to do that. 150 dollars. Then in the middle of winter I asked if they could top off my batteries. I did all the work. I had a charger hooked up. An extension cord connected. All someone had to do was plug it in. 316 dollars!!!!! I could have bought 3 new batteries for that. All these people do is steal for you. I wisely went back to Northport Boatyard. Same situation, I'm in the sling, needing to winterize the motor. Their response was, "Sure, take all the time you need. There are ladders over there next to the building." NEVER use Irish if you have another option.
Had a phenomenal experience with the service team at Irish in Charlevoix. Great communication, and they went above and beyond to resolve a couple issues and conduct haulout for a survey/sea trial.
I know its a team effort to keep these boats in running order but I don't know everyone's name at Irish. I can only name twow Alison and Josh who have done an outstanding job this summer in getting my boat in shape to do the loop. All systems are go including engine work and lots of electronics upgrades. Thanks for a great job by the whole team.
Dave in parts was an absolute life saver. We were on our way home bringing a boat home from Muskegon, MI to Port Huron, MI when we ran into a problem and needed parts. We called everyone and no one had the parts we needed, Dave had the parts overnighted on a Friday for a Saturday Delivery. At 2pm when they closed the parts were out for delivery and Dave stayed for another hour until the parts were delivered. What a great guy and business. Thanks again Dave, you were a life saver.
Original repairs July 2018: Took my boat in for minor repairs to aging gasket parts and prop shaft seal in the port outboard engine. They did everything possible to overcharge. I got a quote and held them to it in the end. They would have charged me 5x the quote had I not questioned their integrity. Be very careful here. My service was mishandled from start to finish. I guess I learned the hard way why they were available and the other 5 mechanics I called were a month out. Updated review 5.2019: In October of 2018 I checked the gear lube in the repaired engine and it appeared to have water in it again. Rick from Irish Boat Shop asked me to bring it in the Spring to have it looked at. I spent the morning at Irish with Rick, Fred, and Josh. Josh found that one of the fill screws might have been compromised. The screw was replaced and hopefully we are in the clear now. I appreciate that they took the time to go over the engine with me. Although it doesn't excuse the massive overcharge, miscommunication, and part breakage on the last repair, it does make me more confident in their ability to repair, and ultimately make a bad situation better. It was a lot of extra time and stress for me but now I feel like the engine is ready for the season. Knowing who is working on my engine makes me more confident in the service too. Josh really knows, and cares, about his service. Thank you Irish Boat Shop for taking the time to make this right and for not charging me anything extra. The star rating has been updated one star since the original review.
