Neither brand can be ranked on power from published data, because the two describe their engines differently. Sea-Doo rates its engines in horsepower. The Yamaha model pages checked for this article list engine family and displacement instead.
- For 2027, Sea-Doo's Rotax 1630 ACE produces up to 350 hp in the GTX Limited, RXT-X, RXP-X and the limited-edition RXP-X Senna 350. Sea-Doo calls it its most powerful factory engine.
- The same 1630 ACE family is rated at 130 hp in the GTI 130, 170 hp in the GTX 170, 230 hp in the GTX 230 and 300 hp in the GTX 300.
- Yamaha's 1.9-liter High Output engine displaces 1,898 cc. Yamaha calls it the largest-displacement engine in a personal watercraft today.
- The one Yamaha horsepower figure found for this article is for the 2027 WaveBlaster: 110 hp from its 1,049 cc TR-1 HO engine.
Displacement and horsepower measure different things, so a bigger Yamaha engine is not proof of more power than a smaller Sea-Doo one, or the other way around.
Each brand sells watercraft the other has no match for, and for some buyers that settles the choice. Sea-Doo covers fishing, exploring and tow sports with purpose-built models. Yamaha covers stand-up riding and one-person sport riding.
- FishPro Sport ($18,449) and FishPro Trophy ($22,949). Sea-Doo lists a cooler, rod holders and Garmin fish finders among FishPro features, and a livewell on the Trophy.
- Explorer Pro ($20,449), which Sea-Doo describes as built for long-distance discovery, with smart storage.
- Wake ($15,949) and Wake Pro ($20,149), which come with a board rack, ski pylon and Ski Mode.
- SuperJet ($11,999), a stand-up WaveRunner.
- WaveBlaster ($11,999), a single-rider WaveRunner. Yamaha says the 2027 model reaches dealers in the first quarter of 2027.
- CrossWave ($32,499), the highest-priced model in Yamaha's US WaveRunner lineup.
Yamaha's closest match to Sea-Doo's tow-sports models is the VX Limited at $15,999, which Yamaha bills as "Watersports Ready."
Both brands offer a system that gives forward, neutral and reverse for low-speed control, under different names. Sea-Doo calls its system iBR, for Intelligent Brake and Reverse, and lists it on the Spark and GTI. Yamaha calls its system RiDE and lists it on models including the VX, VX Cruiser HO and FX HO.
Sea-Doo says iBR is exclusive to Sea-Doo and has been recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard for improving safety, and that it lets riders engage forward, neutral and reverse for stable, easy maneuvers at low speeds. Yamaha says RiDE lets riders switch between forward, neutral and reverse with a single pull of the throttle for smoother deceleration, reversing and docking. Sea-Doo also offers iDF, a system that clears a clogged pump intake with a button, on models including the 2027 Spark X and GTX.

- Family recreation: compare the Sea-Doo GTI with the Yamaha VX-C or VX. Prices are close; the GTI has more storage and the VX-C weighs less.
- Touring with lots of storage: Yamaha's FX HO lists 44.5 gallons against 26.1 for the GTX 170.
- Fishing, exploring or a tow-sports setup from the factory: Sea-Doo FishPro, Explorer Pro or Wake.
- Stand-up or solo sport riding: Yamaha SuperJet or WaveBlaster.
