Shopping for a vehicle at Capitol Chevrolet Of Salem in Salem, Oregon? Follow these steps to buy with confidence.
Pull the vehicle history report
Run a CARFAX or AutoCheck report using the VIN before you visit. Look for accident history, odometer rollbacks, and title brands like salvage or flood. Ask Capitol Chevrolet Of Salem if a report is available for any listing.
Take a thorough test drive
Drive on both city streets and the highway. Accelerate hard. Brake firmly. Listen for any clunks, vibrations, or warning lights. Test the AC, heat, and all electronics during the drive.
Inspect for hidden wear
Check for uneven panel gaps, mismatched paint, or overspray — signs of past bodywork. Push on each corner of the car to test the shocks. Look underneath for frame damage, fluid leaks, or rust.
Get a pre-purchase inspection
Have a trusted mechanic inspect any used vehicle before you buy. A $100–$150 PPI can uncover issues that save you thousands. Ask Capitol Chevrolet Of Salem if a third-party inspection is permitted.
Negotiate the out-the-door price
Focus on the total out-the-door price, not the monthly payment. Understand every fee on the sales contract before signing. Dealer add-ons like paint protection and VIN etching are negotiable at Capitol Chevrolet Of Salem.
Auto financing is competitive. A little preparation before visiting Capitol Chevrolet Of Salem in Salem, Oregon puts you in a stronger position.

I cant recommend capitol Chevrolet anymore but if I could I would! they made the process simple and easy and worked there best to get me the best rate they could. Amazing family owned dealer and Elijha was a phenomenal guy to work with as well as Alex SHOUT OUT CAPITOL CHEVY! (also I love my new 2024 camry!)
They are the best of the best. They tried hard to get me a loan to buy my truck and were successful. I love the professionalism and friendliness of the sales staff. I highly recommend them to everyone.
It's a long story as to how we got to this 1 star review that involves deception, fraud(in my opinion) misleading promises and soon to be filed complaint with the oregon attorney general. Ill start my review by saying that Danielle was a great sales representative however her sales management and capitols general management and business practices are otherworldly shadey. I found a listing for a 2018 GMC Terrain Diesel that was fully loaded at a great price that they had just listed. We get to the dealership and find that the car was listed prior to being serviced or inspected for that matter.(More on this shortly) Danielle is a bubbly easy going sales person that was very pleasant to deal with when we arrive. So we take the car for a test drive. The car has clearly gone with out being detailed for some time and smells of cigarrete smoke. During the test drive we're told they just got this car as trade in and they haven't yet been able to send it through it's inspection and intake process. We're told it's a single owner car as well. Now we try doing some operational checks on the systems etc of the car. The TPMS needs repaired as does the sun/moonroof and we're assured that barring it's exorbently expensive to do so that it would be fixed prior to us taking the car. So as my wife is driving I proceed to rummage through the glove box and find a temporary trip permit from 2023. I inquire as to it being a single owner car again and reassured that it is. When we arrive back at the dealership I ask for the Carfax report on the car to review the ownership of the car. I find through reviewing the report that the dealership did indeed take the car in as trade in! That is in 2023..... and proceeded to put another 20,000 miles on it(I would guess as a loaner or curtosey vehicle.) So i ask about this and I'm told that yes it was used as such. No big deal so now we get into the process of the sale. We're told that if we don't buy it today (8/3/2025) they plan on making the price up another $3,000 come tomorrow.(classic used car sales tactic.... so annoying) so we get in writing that well purchase it at the price and come back tomorrow and pay cash for the vehicle. We come back the next day 8/4/2025 and pay for the vehicle but are not able to pick it up because now....after it's sold.... they're doing the intake and inspection on a vehicle that's been in their possession for 2 years now.... so on Tuesday 8/5/2025 we pick up the vehicle that still hasnt been detailed to drive for a couple days to see if there's anything further to address while their fixing the moonroof etc.... we drive it till Friday morning and find out that the touch screen for the radio/navigation/Bluetooth etc is not functional over half the screen so when we drop it off on Friday for repairs we let them know this. We left for vacation for 2 weeks on 8/8/2025. When we return we contact them on 8/21/2025 to inquire as to what's going on with the car and get the run around on it. On 8/25 they give us a loaner vehicle. On September 5th they let us know they're going to refund us our purchase price as the repairs are too expensive. So now they figured out we purchased over a month ago at this point and the dealership has just now figured out they probably shouldn't have listed the vehicle that they've been using for 2 years now for sale.... we were finally issued our refund this week on Tuesday (9/9/2025) for a vehicle we purchased over a month ago. But the story gets better. Please see Don's 1 star review of Capitol Subaru from 2024 as they did the same thing to him. (He happens to be my Father in Law) If 2 dealerships under the same group have done this to us I'm guessing that we're not the first 2 nor will we be the last. Avoid this fraudulent place!!! If you do go ask for Danielle as she'll be a great advocate for you! If anyone else has had problems like this please join me and File a complaint through the Oregon Department of Justice Consumer Protection website!!!
I had such a pleasant experience with the guys at Capitol. Ethan and Johnny helped us through the purchase of a new Chevy Colorado and were very kind and welcoming, and answered any and all questions we had about the vehicle and the process. I LOVE my new truck!
My husband and I purchased a vehicle from this lot today and were very pleased with the service we received. We worked with Kaleb and he was great with answering all of our questions, listening to our concerns and made the whole process go by smoothly. We highly recommend asking for him if you’re in need of help with your purchase!
