Shopping for a vehicle at Americar in Virginia Beach, Virginia? Follow these steps to buy with confidence.
Pull the vehicle history report
Run a CARFAX or AutoCheck report using the VIN before you visit. Look for accident history, odometer rollbacks, and title brands like salvage or flood. Ask Americar if a report is available for any listing.
Take a thorough test drive
Drive on both city streets and the highway. Accelerate hard. Brake firmly. Listen for any clunks, vibrations, or warning lights. Test the AC, heat, and all electronics during the drive.
Inspect for hidden wear
Check for uneven panel gaps, mismatched paint, or overspray — signs of past bodywork. Push on each corner of the car to test the shocks. Look underneath for frame damage, fluid leaks, or rust.
Get a pre-purchase inspection
Have a trusted mechanic inspect any used vehicle before you buy. A $100–$150 PPI can uncover issues that save you thousands. Ask Americar if a third-party inspection is permitted.
Negotiate the out-the-door price
Focus on the total out-the-door price, not the monthly payment. Understand every fee on the sales contract before signing. Dealer add-ons like paint protection and VIN etching are negotiable at Americar.
Auto financing is competitive. A little preparation before visiting Americar in Virginia Beach, Virginia puts you in a stronger position.
Typical Loan Terms

I will say, if you’re not able to pay someone for repairs or repair vehicles yourself DO NOT buy from here. Just because they say their cars are inspected doesn’t mean jack shooooot !! They’re fudging these inspections clear as day. I’m still giving 3 stars because the guy was nice and it was an easy process and because we knew what we were getting into I don’t feel like we specifically got played. But I could very easily see how someone who is less aware of vehicles etc. would feel like they got ran through. We knew buying a cheaper cash car would come with some manual. However, if I didn’t have my husband I would have absolutely been screwed. When we first looked at the car we knew there was a few things that needed to get fixed like TPMS censors. No biggie. Test drove the car for about 20 minutes and scanned for codes and saw nothing major. Though we were fairly certain of a valve cover that needed to be replaced. Kid you not 5 minutes off the lot a check engine light came on. The first time driving at night we realized that the passenger headlight also didn’t work. Car is on a lift now while my husband makes said repair for engine light where we also noticed the driver side axle boot is SHOT so that also needs to get replaced. Again, we aren’t necessarily mad because we knew this is the name of the game buying a cash car and thankfully he is willing a capable of doing all of this himself. But if I was a single woman, someone without extra pocket change, or someone who didn’t know about cars (which on my own I’m not) I wouldn’t recommend buying a car from here. Their “inspections” mean nothing because there’s NO WAY this would have passed if it was legitimately inspected.
The owner is a horrible person to deal with. Extremely lazy , unpresentable , trashy , unreliable , and rude. The title on the vehicle i bought was never properly filed and processed so dmv won't do tags or anything and thats after waiting 60+ days just to get the title.
Only after a month of buying a car from here, the check engine light came on. I took it to get inspected only for them to find out the transmission was damaged, the car was leaking fluid, and it had not gotten any maintenance on it done in a very long time. They inspector told me the dealers should not have even sold the car in the shape it was and had thousands of dollars in damage. The car didn't even have the correct battery in it, and the battery was lodged in place by a piece of wood to force it to fit! Be careful if you buy a car from here, extremely shady business practices.
I bought a 2004 Cadillac DeVille for $3400 from Kevin that owns the Car Lot and a week later the car began to overheat. When I called him about this he told me he sold it to me "As is" and I need to take it to his mechanic (Terry's automotive) and he would send me the title and hung up on me. When I took it to Terry's automotive (the original owner of said vehicle apparently) he said I needed multiple things replaced (water pump, radiator, and thermostat) in which I paid for him to replace. Car over heated 3 miles down the road to the house. I eventually got it towed to meineke 2 weeks later and said that everything on the inspection sheet should not have passed. I have a car that has everything wrong with it, and I will be seeing them in court soon.
Kevin ( or Ken, I'm terrible with names)was absolutely awesome, he went out of his way to get me in a car as fast as possible when nobody else would, I had been looking and looking and couldn't find anything in my price range or anything that was ready to drive, i had just totaled my only car and he came through for me like a champ and even upgraded my car when the 1 I originally wanted to purchase didn't pass inspection , Their customer service is top notch even better than customer service that I have gotten when I bought a brand new car!! THANKS SO MUCH!!
