Buying a snowmobile from Shawnee Cycle Plaza in Shawnee, Kansas? Use this checklist to avoid costly surprises.
Inspect the track and slides
Lay the sled on its side and check the track for cracks, missing lugs, or cuts. Pull the track away from the slides and check for wear groove depth — worn slides increase drive noise and reduce efficiency.
Check the hood and tunnel for damage
Cracks in the hood or tunnel can signal a past crash. Look for mismatched or faded plastic, which often means replacement panels were installed after damage.
Inspect the carbides and skis
Carbide runners on the ski underside provide steering. Worn carbides (less than 3/16" remaining) reduce handling on packed snow. Ski replacement is inexpensive, but factor it into your offer.
Check coolant and oil
Pull the coolant reservoir cap and oil tank dipstick. Milky coolant signals water contamination. Low or dirty oil signals deferred maintenance. Ask ${dealerName} for service records.
Ask about storage and season history
A properly stored snowmobile — fuel stabilized, fogged engine, battery maintained — will start and run far better than one that sat neglected. Ask Shawnee Cycle Plaza about the unit's storage and riding history.
Snowmobile financing is seasonal. Knowing the basics helps you get the best deal at Shawnee Cycle Plaza in Shawnee, Kansas before the riding season starts.
Typical Loan Terms
24 to 60 months is typical for snowmobile loans.
Down Payment
10% to 20% down is standard. Off-season purchases sometimes qualify for promotional rates.
Pro Tip
Get pre-approved by your bank before visiting Shawnee Cycle Plaza — it gives you a rate to compare against dealer financing.
Manufacturer finance programs (Ski-Doo, Polaris, Arctic Cat) often offer zero-interest or low-rate deals in the off-season. Ask Shawnee Cycle Plaza what programs are currently available. Buying in spring or summer often yields better financing deals than buying in fall.

Very poor communication and Ghosted me after service. Long story short I brought my 2024 R1 for $19k warranty motor rebuild. The whole time I had to be the person to reach out to get any updates. I’m not counting the amount of time to wait for parts to come in because they had no control over it. This is where the communication starts to lack. Once all the parts showed up I was told 2 weeks. A week to build and a week to heat cycle. So I waited 2.5 weeks with no phone call, so I called them. I was then told “oh we should be able to fit it into the schedule next week” which took me by surprise since it should be done at that point. So I was put on hold and grabbed another employee to tell me they have been waiting on a special tool. I think I was told for piston rings but it’s been so long I can’t even remember the exact tool. So we wait for this tool. Once again no communication. Call about three weeks later to be told they assembled the cams in the wrong order and that they had to re order torque to spec bolts. Wait a few more weeks to then call in to be told well the bolts might be on back order. All of this and I could care less and would never said a peep as long as she was built right. What has pushed me over the edge to write a review and send them an email today is… I picked up my bike December 13th. I then found yellowing on my tank for what I assume to be gasoline sitting on my clear. I call them right back and am told to send pics and I do. I then have to chase management to get back in contact with me. I was told to take the tank off bring it in and they could bring it to their buddy that works in the auto collision industry. Who knows how long that would take and what kind of communication nightmare that would have been let alone matching color since it butts up to another white plastic cowl peice. I also live an hour away so 4 hours total to get a tank resprayed. Me and my dad both work at professional body shops and did the paintwork ourselves. So I told them just get a quote from his buddy and give me a credit. He agreed and two weeks later still no quote. I call him and am told he hasn’t had the time due to the holidays. I let it go once agian and go get two quotes myself to send to him. One from a guy that does custom paint work for bikes. His price was to high even for me so I had my own shop bid me labor and material cost and this quote was over half of the original. I will post a screen shot of his reply and damage I have been mentioning. After his reply it has been a month. No contract since and no holidays since then so not sure what the issue was this time. I sent them a final email voicing my experience and let them know I have fixed it out of my own pocket and will no longer be bringing any business their way. They could have offered me a $50 store credit. It was not about the money. They could have even told me to get lost and that they are not gonna take care of it and I probs wouldn’t have left a review. With all that being said I hope everyone else had a lovely experience with them. I bought my first bike from them and tried my second but they couldn’t find me a r1 but I will not longer be bringing business here. Edit: After email was sent and review was posted I was called and told they have a check ready for me to pick up and said it had slipped their mind. I denied the check because once agian this wasn’t about the money it was about the service. Idk how one forgets a customer that has had a bad experience and that’s not a main priority. I hope everyone’s experience in the future is different but talking to some previous customers I’ve been told they have had the same lack of communication.
Love this place. Very impressed. No pressure sales, very pleasant. Bought new motorcycle and the experience couldn't have been smoother. Walked through parts and accessories, then service and finally sales. Couldn't have been better. Shawn, our sales person, was fantastic. Buy a bike here, you won't be sorry.
Jacob in sales was great to deal with and pretty much was able to do the deal over text and email! When I arrived to pick up the bike, paperwork was in place and the bike was ready to go. Everyone I met in Finance, parts and service were great and very helpful. Finance gave me several options and didn’t try to push anything on me that I didn’t want. I will do business there again and send others their way! Thanks Shawnee Cycle
My expectations were met when I arrived at Shawnee cycle. I was greeted as soon as I walked into the doors and only met with kindness. I highly recommend this dealership due to their large selection of utility vehicles, motorcycles, and dirt bikes. As a first time buyer they made the process flow like a breeze. They took me to parts and accessories then to service where they explained break-in period and all that fun regular maintenance. Jacob my salesman could not have done a better job for me. If you’re looking for a motorcycle I highly recommend Shawnee cycle plaza.
The whole crew did a great job taking care of me and my new purchase. If you're going to buy a Honda or any other bike for that matter, these guys will take care of you. They were thorough, respectful, and informative. I live a bit away, or I'd be doing all of my service at their shop.
