Buying a snowmobile from Ecklund Motorsports of Appleton in Appleton, Wisconsin? Use this checklist to avoid costly surprises.
Inspect the track and slides
Lay the sled on its side and check the track for cracks, missing lugs, or cuts. Pull the track away from the slides and check for wear groove depth — worn slides increase drive noise and reduce efficiency.
Check the hood and tunnel for damage
Cracks in the hood or tunnel can signal a past crash. Look for mismatched or faded plastic, which often means replacement panels were installed after damage.
Inspect the carbides and skis
Carbide runners on the ski underside provide steering. Worn carbides (less than 3/16" remaining) reduce handling on packed snow. Ski replacement is inexpensive, but factor it into your offer.
Check coolant and oil
Pull the coolant reservoir cap and oil tank dipstick. Milky coolant signals water contamination. Low or dirty oil signals deferred maintenance. Ask ${dealerName} for service records.
Ask about storage and season history
A properly stored snowmobile — fuel stabilized, fogged engine, battery maintained — will start and run far better than one that sat neglected. Ask Ecklund Motorsports of Appleton about the unit's storage and riding history.
Snowmobile financing is seasonal. Knowing the basics helps you get the best deal at Ecklund Motorsports of Appleton in Appleton, Wisconsin before the riding season starts.
Typical Loan Terms
24 to 60 months is typical for snowmobile loans.
Down Payment
10% to 20% down is standard. Off-season purchases sometimes qualify for promotional rates.
Pro Tip
Get pre-approved by your bank before visiting Ecklund Motorsports of Appleton — it gives you a rate to compare against dealer financing.
Manufacturer finance programs (Ski-Doo, Polaris, Arctic Cat) often offer zero-interest or low-rate deals in the off-season. Ask Ecklund Motorsports of Appleton what programs are currently available. Buying in spring or summer often yields better financing deals than buying in fall.

I picked up my new snowmobile Thursday, and already put 300 miles on it this weekend! This is the 3rd snowmobile I have bought from Ecklunds. As always, Jeff (salesman) took great care of me. They also have a great service department that is really good at getting me back out on the trails when I need repairs which is greatly appreciated with the short snowmobile season, I can’t afford downtime! :)
I was interested in a sled they had for sale I’m not from around the area so I had my buddy go look at it for me before I made the trip over because he’s from the Appleton area. When he looked at it before me he told me that the salesmen said the guy traded it in because the insurance was so expensive. I Went down to Appleton to then check it out. I told the salesmen I was interested in the sled and wanted to know the story on it and he told me that it was a demo unit. The salesmen then went silent like he was mute and walked away. After looking more at the sled I noticed that the front end on the left side of the sled was set back 2 inches compared to the other side. Wouldn’t recommend dealing with them take your money elsewhere.
I don’t recommend buy used. I bought a 2021 GSXR 600 looked and ran amazing. Inside of the neck was cracked which means it was totaled. Getting ahold of them was a joke lol. I wanted gap insurance never got it. They treat you great till your out the door.
Josh Juedes was the perfect salesman. He listened to me, got me what I wanted, and walked me through my new scooter. He was willing to answer my questions and didn’t make me feel foolish for asking anything.
This place will never treat the customer right. There is a reason the parking lot is always empty. The management is absolutely terrible. I assume it’s because higher management doesn’t do squat. DO NOT TRUST WITH YOUR MONEY.
