Buying a snowmobile from Cernic's in Johnstown, Pennsylvania? Use this checklist to avoid costly surprises.
Inspect the track and slides
Lay the sled on its side and check the track for cracks, missing lugs, or cuts. Pull the track away from the slides and check for wear groove depth — worn slides increase drive noise and reduce efficiency.
Check the hood and tunnel for damage
Cracks in the hood or tunnel can signal a past crash. Look for mismatched or faded plastic, which often means replacement panels were installed after damage.
Inspect the carbides and skis
Carbide runners on the ski underside provide steering. Worn carbides (less than 3/16" remaining) reduce handling on packed snow. Ski replacement is inexpensive, but factor it into your offer.
Check coolant and oil
Pull the coolant reservoir cap and oil tank dipstick. Milky coolant signals water contamination. Low or dirty oil signals deferred maintenance. Ask ${dealerName} for service records.
Ask about storage and season history
A properly stored snowmobile — fuel stabilized, fogged engine, battery maintained — will start and run far better than one that sat neglected. Ask Cernic's about the unit's storage and riding history.
Snowmobile financing is seasonal. Knowing the basics helps you get the best deal at Cernic's in Johnstown, Pennsylvania before the riding season starts.
Typical Loan Terms
24 to 60 months is typical for snowmobile loans.
Down Payment
10% to 20% down is standard. Off-season purchases sometimes qualify for promotional rates.
Pro Tip
Get pre-approved by your bank before visiting Cernic's — it gives you a rate to compare against dealer financing.
Manufacturer finance programs (Ski-Doo, Polaris, Arctic Cat) often offer zero-interest or low-rate deals in the off-season. Ask Cernic's what programs are currently available. Buying in spring or summer often yields better financing deals than buying in fall.

Purchased a KTM 890 Adventure from the team, it was a fantastic, low stress experience. Eric provided great sales support while Donna and Paul took care of the behind the scenes work with grace. I’m fortunate for having come across the team, they did great work.
Thank you so much for making this purchase so smooth and easy from the first phone call to loading it on the trailer. Everything was top notch
Drove 3.5hrs to get this bike I had seen online and got there at 9am right when they opened. I was pre approved and had the bike on hold with them ahead of time to save some time when I got there. I waited until 10:30 walking around the showroom to be told to drive 10 minutes away to their warehouse to see the bike I had them hold for me. And then was told to load it up in my truck to bring it back to the main store so they could do a final clean and inspection of it. After looking it over it was dirtier than I thought and one of the younger guys said the owner loaned it to a friend awhile back so that kinda irritated me it wasn’t perfect like they claimed but whatever. So I brought it from the warehouse to their store and unloaded it after realizing it had a dead battery. The service tech, and finance guy told me it was having a new battery put in it along with the once over. At this point it is 11:30 and after 3 total hours of being at the dealer at 12:30 I finally got to load it back up and drive 3.5hrs home just to find out they lied to me and didn’t replace the battery so it was dead when I got home. The ONLY reason this is not a 1 star review is the finance guy I had was really nice even though he said it got a new battery when it didn’t he was a very genuine guy.
I brought in an older low mileage snowmobile with a complicated electronic issue. Paul and his team were very upfront about their process that included duplicating the issue, hourly costs and focused results. The turnaround was quick, transparent and painless. I would highly recommend this place for service.
One of the best experiences purchasing a new 2024 can am maverick x3 ds turbo, prices are good and they make the experience super easy and seamless. Would highly recommend first time buyers go talk to Jason, he really knows how to make sure you are buying the right machine for you and what you enjoy doing. Again one of the best experiences and would buy from them again.
