I would HIGHLY recommend avoiding Pinnacle unless you enjoy being overcharged, treated poorly, and still walking away with a boat that doesn’t run. TL;DR: Loyal customer for nearly 10 years — now completely done. Misdiagnosed repair, outrageous markup on parts, rude and aggressive service when I asked polite, reasonable questions. Ended with them hanging up on me. Highly recommend taking your boat anywhere else. We’ve been using Pinnacle for nearly 10 years — mostly for oil changes, winterization, and the occasional minor repair. But after this most recent experience, I’m honestly questioning whether any of those past services were even necessary or just upsells. Last year, we brought our boat in because it wasn’t running right — throttle was cutting in and out, and gas was leaking everywhere. I mentioned it could be a fuel pump issue based on what I’d researched. They said they’d take a look when they did the winterization. They later called and told us the issue was a gas line that needed to be “teed off.” This didn’t make much sense to us — that setup had been the same for 15+ years since we got the boat, and it had never caused an issue. Regardless, they insisted it was a safety issue and refused to shrink wrap it unless it was fixed. We agreed of course as safety comes first. Come spring, I took it back in to be de-winterized. Side note: If you don’t remove your own shrink wrap, they’ll happily charge you nearly $100 for a 10-minute task. When they called to say it was ready, I asked if it ran okay. They said they’d have to check with the person who ran it. Later, they called back and said it started and was “good to go” for the weekend. I specifically asked if they were sure — we have 3 kids, and as I stated before, safety is a priority for us. They assured me it was fine. We got to the lake — and sure enough, it wouldn’t start and was still pouring gas from the back when cranking it. Same issue from before. When we got back, I called to let them know nothing had been fixed. They seemed annoyed and told me they would look at it but there was no timeline. Said they were short-staffed and it could take weeks, or maybe longer. When I asked if we were talking months, they said, “Oh no, not that long. At least we hope not.” I left it with them anyway, thinking they at least knew the history. Three weeks passed with no communication. I called to just check in, and they said, “We just pulled it in today.” (Funny timing.) They promised a follow-up. Two days later, I got a call: It was the fuel pump… You know, the issue I’d suggested at the very beginning. Then came the kicker: He asked if I was sitting down and told me the part alone would cost $1,600, and the total bill would be around $2,200–$2,300 with labor. I told him I had found the part online last year for $590, and asked — politely — if maybe I was looking at the wrong part. I just wanted to understand the price difference and what the extra charges included. (Ended up getting the whole assembly I needed for $159.99 online) Anyways, that’s when things went off the rails. He got extremely angry and snapped at me saying, “That’s my price. I don’t work for free. If I did, I’d be out of business.” I asked what diagnostics were done, since I was told that part of it wouldn’t cost me anything due to their misdiagnosis last year. He didn’t want to hear it. Instead, he raised his voice and asked if I wanted him to fix it or take it somewhere else. I said we’d just come pick it up as soon as we were back in town from vacation. He said, “Perfect. I’ll move it to the lot. You’re at the very back of the list now. Thanks. See ya.” Then hung up on me. After years of bringing our boat here, I was treated like I was trying to cheat them — just for asking fair questions after they failed to fix the problem the first time. The lack of professionalism and respect was mind blowing. Needless to say, we will never be going back.
They are very knowledgeable and try to accommodate fixing your boat in the time frame that you need it. I like all the people working there and their prices are fair
The absolute LAST place you ever want to take your boat or motor for any kind of service, or anything else!! Made the horrible mistake of buying a brand new Honda outboard motor through them. Although was promised "roughly a couple of hours for install time", it took them almost FOUR weeks to get it installed. When they finally did get around to getting it installed, the existing wiring on the boat and other things were completely messed up, wires were cut, some disconnected, many others were just left loosely hanging. When asked about it, they indicated that it was my fault and that it was up to me to fix the problems they caused! Should probably also mention that the final installation cost was over FIVE times what was originally quoted. If that wasn't enough, the worst part was that when picking up the boat and new motor, we made the mistake of asking what the break in and maintenance schedule was. Didn't seem like that was an out of norm or unrealistic considering it's a brand new motor. However, the slob behind the counter then began dropping F-Bombs and yelling at us, telling us that we were interfering with him. Keep in mind, he works plopped right AT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE COUNTER!! Although we had concerns and the one questions about the new motor, we apparently missed the sign indicating customers are not permitted to ask questions! Without question, the worst customer service I have ever heard of or experienced. You are better off going ANYWHERE else, you will be grateful you did! If you want to feel treated like complete garbage with complete disrespect and made to feel like you are an inconvenience and you want to experience horrendously rude and gross customer service, then this is the right place for you!
If I could give a negative star I would. 1 star is way more than they deserve. We purchased a brand new motor and had it installed. Went to pick it up and had a few questions about the new motor and break in procedures. While doing this a very rude worker started cussing us out dropping Fbombs and hollering at us to move away. We were paying for the motor and finding info. I have never been treated so rudely and would not under any circumstances return or reccomend them to anyone anywhere. Be smart and go somewhere else.
I just want to say!!! This business is AWESOME!!!! I have been having several issues with my boat motor. I was skeptical about taking it in as I was sure I was going to pay for things that did not need to be done. I needed the boat back on Friday and took it on Monday. They explained that they were really busy but would try. Jeff called me several times during the week to give me updates and the boat was ready on Friday afternoon. The mechanic, Tyler went thru the whole engine and fixed only the things that needed to be fixed. When I picked up the boat, both Jeff and Tyler went over everything that they did. There were a couple items that they thought that needed repaired. However, instead of making additional repairs they determined that the additional items only needed to be cleaned or adjusted. They could have replaced the additional items and charged me a lot more but didn’t. These guys are honest and have great customer service!!!!! I totally anticipated my repairs were going to cost me a fortune. DID NOT HAPPEN!!! You have to use these guys!!!! I am a former Law Enforcement officer and have worked numerous frauds during my career in that awful State of California. With my experience with Pinnacle Marine Service, I would HIGHLY recommend taking your boat to this business!!!!
