Class B vs Class C RV: a Class B is a camper van, a van converted into living space, while a Class C is a motorhome built on a cab or cutaway chassis. In the 2027 Thor and Jayco pairs compared here, the Class C is wider, taller and sleeps more, and the Class B costs about the same or more.

List prices are each maker's 2027 MSRP for the floor plan. Jayco's exclude freight and dealer prep charges. Thor's terms say its prices do not include options or other charges, fees and taxes. Specifications and prices were read from the makers' websites on 12 October 2026.
This comparison comes from published data, not test drives. Thor Motor Coach and Jayco each build both classes, so each maker gave one pair: a Class B and a Class C from its 2027 lineup.
- Thor pair, matched for length. The Tellaro 20L and the Four Winds 19Z are within 6 inches of each other in length, so the pair shows what each class does with about 20 feet.
- Jayco pair, matched for price. The Comet 18L and the Redhawk SE 20LF are the lowest-priced floor plans in Jayco's Class B and Class C ranges (the Redhawk SE 20SF shares the 20LF's price), $893 apart.
Asking prices come from Searchshop's own RV listings, read on 12 October 2026. Thor's own guide to the two classes describes a Class B as a van converted into living space and a Class C as a motorhome built with a cab or cutaway chassis, and those are the definitions used here.
Within each maker's pair, the Class C is the wider, taller coach with the larger engine and the bigger waste tanks.

A Class B is narrower and lower than a Class C, even when the two are about the same length.
- Width. The Four Winds 19Z is 13 inches wider than the Tellaro 20L, measured without mirrors. The Redhawk SE 20LF is 17 inches wider than the Comet 18L, by Jayco's exterior width.
- Height. The Four Winds stands 14 inches taller than the Tellaro. The Redhawk SE is 3 ft 6 in. taller than the Comet.
- Length. Class does not decide length on its own. The Thor Class B is 6 inches longer than its Class C partner, while the Jayco Class C is 4 ft 1 in. longer than the Comet.
Jayco describes the Comet as small enough to fit into standard garages or snug campground spots. Jayco lists the Comet 18L at 8 ft 0 in. tall with air conditioning, so measure your garage door opening against the height for the floor plan and options you choose.
Each Class C sleeps more people than its Class B partner: three against two in the Thor pair, and up to four against up to two in the Jayco pair.
Both Thor models have four seat belt positions, so the Four Winds 19Z adds a bed but not a seat.
The Class C models also stand taller inside. The Four Winds has 5 inches more interior height than the Tellaro, and the Redhawk SE has 10 inches more than the Comet.
Tank size is where the classes differ most for time away from hookups. The Redhawk SE carries 31 gallons of black water against 5.5 gallons on the Comet, which comes with a cassette toilet. The Thor gap is smaller: 16 gallons of waste water on the Four Winds against 13.5 on the Tellaro. Fresh water is close in both pairs, and the Tellaro carries 1.5 gallons more than the Four Winds.
Both Class C models carry a higher hitch rating than their Class B partners, which matters if you plan to tow a car or a small trailer behind the motorhome.
- Thor rates the Four Winds 19Z hitch at 8,000 lb and the Tellaro 20L hitch at 5,000 lb.
- Jayco lists a 5,000 lb hitch with 500 lb tongue capacity on the Redhawk SE 20LF, and a 3,500 lb rear hitch receiver on the Comet 18L.
Thor's combined weight ratings (GCWR) show the same split: 18,500 lb for the Four Winds 19Z and 12,000 lb for the Tellaro 20L. Check both the hitch rating and the combined rating for the exact floor plan before you tow.
New Class B and Class C RVs are listed at similar median asking prices on Searchshop, while used Class C RVs ask less than used Class B vans.

| New Class B | 1,559 | $149,998 | $119,998 to $192,206 |
| New Class C | 3,283 | $157,091 | $109,995 to $239,993 |

| Used Class C | 942 | $87,996 | $69,995 to $119,995 |
These figures cover the 1,920 Class B and 4,291 Class C listings that Searchshop's search returned on 12 October 2026, split by the condition the dealer gave. A listing's class is the label on the listing, which dealers set, and they do not always match the maker's class: one Thor Four Winds, which Thor sells as a Class C, is listed as Class B. For 2026 model-year new units alone, the median asking price was $149,998 in both classes.
New Class C prices spread wider than new Class B prices: the middle half of Class C prices starts lower and ends higher. Jayco's 2027 lineup shows the same pattern in list prices. Its four Class B models start between $122,175 (Comet) and $203,625 (Terrain). Its Class C starting prices run from $123,068 (Redhawk SE) to $426,600 (Seneca Prestige).
Searchshop's RV loan calculator turns any of these asking prices into a monthly payment.
A Class B suits one or two travelers who want the narrowest, lowest coach, and a Class C suits buyers who need more beds, more tank capacity or a higher towing rating.
- Choose a Class B if you travel as a couple or alone, want a narrow coach (both Class B vans here are under 7 ft wide), or need a low roof. Do not assume it saves money: in these two pairs, the Class B cost $893 less or $33,600 more than its Class C partner.
- Choose a Class C if you need beds for three or more, want larger black and gray tanks, or plan to tow a car. In these two pairs, about the same money or less bought the wider coach.
- Compare floor plans, not classes. Length, sleeping capacity and tank sizes vary inside each class, so compare the exact floor plans on the maker's spec sheet.
Read the motorhome buying guide for what to check on a used coach, and RV types explained for how motorhomes compare with towables such as a fifth wheel or travel trailer. When you are ready, compare Class B and Class C RVs for sale on Searchshop and set a price-drop alert on the ones you like.
A Class B RV is not necessarily cheaper than a Class C. In 2027 list prices, Thor's Tellaro 20L Class B costs $33,600 more than its Four Winds 19Z Class C of about the same length, and Jayco's lowest-priced Class B is $893 below its lowest-priced Class C. On Searchshop on 12 October 2026, new units of both classes had similar median asking prices, and used Class C RVs had the lower median.
The Class B vans compared here sleep two, and the Class C models sleep more. The 2027 Thor Tellaro 20L and Jayco Comet 18L Class B vans sleep two. The Thor Four Winds 19Z sleeps three and the Jayco Redhawk SE 20LF sleeps up to four. Larger Class C floor plans sleep more: the 2027 Four Winds 31E sleeps seven.
A Class B RV can tow, but the two compared here are rated for less than their Class C partners. Thor rates the 2027 Tellaro 20L hitch at 5,000 lb and the Four Winds 19Z Class C at 8,000 lb. Jayco's 2027 Comet 18L has a 3,500 lb rear hitch receiver, while the Redhawk SE 20LF Class C has a 5,000 lb hitch. Check the hitch rating and the combined weight rating (GCWR) of the exact floor plan before towing.
