Buying a motorcycle from Michael's Reno Powersports in RENO, Nevada? Follow this checklist before you commit.
Verify the title and VIN
Check the VIN on the frame, engine, and title to confirm they match. Run the VIN through a motorcycle history report. Michael's Reno Powersports should be able to provide documentation for any bike in their inventory.
Check the fork seals and bearings
Look for oil weeping down the fork tubes — a sign the seals need replacement. Grab the front wheel and push/pull firmly to check for play in the steering head bearings.
Inspect the chain and sprockets
A worn chain will have excess slack and the sprocket teeth will look hooked or pointed instead of rounded. Chain and sprocket replacement runs $200–$500. Factor that into your offer if it's needed.
Check tire age and tread depth
Look for the DOT date code on the sidewall — tires over five years old should be replaced regardless of tread. Tires are a safety item, not a cosmetic one.
Take a test ride
Confirm the clutch engages smoothly, the brakes feel firm, and the bike tracks straight at speed. Listen for valve noise, exhaust leaks, or electrical issues. A short test ride catches problems a visual inspection misses.

Just bought a 2026 GSX-8R with Justin's assistance, perfect sales experience, easy pickup, even a good discount on a new helmet!
Absolutely stellar experience at this Reno gem! Their massive selection of top-notch dirt bikes, ATVs, and e-bikes left us spoiled for choice. The staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to help us find the perfect ride. My 12-year-old was thrilled with the awesome e-bike options—his eyes lit up! A must-visit for any motorsport enthusiast!
The Cons: This was by far the worst experience I have ever had buying anything period. Not only did these guys have less than satisfactory communication with me during my purchase, they had even worse communication with each other. I was told Friday 6/27 by one of the salesman that my bike would be ready to go when I showed up Saturday 6/28. He was not going to be there on Saturday, and told me he’d let the other guys know that I was coming in. I went into the dealership on Saturday and not a single person had a clue that I was there for a bike, and my bike was still in shop with a check engine light. Nobody called to let me know prior that it wasn’t ready, and they had added additional charges to the purchase price before I drove 1.5 hours with my trailer. I then had to go home without the bike after purchasing it. Fast forward 1 month of the bike in the shop, keep in mind my temp tag had expired in that time and I had to make a payment on a bike that I didn’t even have possession of. Thursday 7/31 I take delivery of the bike. They didn’t send me a new temp tag with the bike. The bike also showed up with 1/3 tank of fuel and a ding on the fuel tank that wasn’t there before. They didn’t even have the decency to fill up the fuel tank with gas before I got it from them, or own up to damaging the bike. However It’s possible they didn’t notice the small ding. It’s not a big deal to me because it’s an off-road bike and will get dinged up, it’s more the principle of the issue and the fact that it wasn’t there on 6/28 that’s the annoyance. So now I have this bike I waited a month for, it’s low on fuel, and it’s not legal to ride or able to be registered without a temp tag. Pros: Trevor took care of me by throwing a helmet into the deal for my trouble, gave me tie-down straps, and had the bike delivered to my house over 80 miles away for free. He was very apologetic the day of the purchase, and also called me and apologized again on 7/30 which was very much appreciated. Justin in the finance department was also very easy to work with and was very polite and helpful throughout the buying process and the month of waiting after. The sales guys are nice guys, they just need to communicate better with both the customers and with each other. The KTM technician who fixed the bike for me, and the service department were also fantastic. Unfortunately I do not recall names or id mention them here. It’s possible I’d buy from these guys again
2 stars just because they have a good selection of apparel and the parts guys are halfway decent. The sales staff is by far the worst in reno. The financial guy is by far one of the worst I've delt with. Went in to buy a bike, Negotiated with the sales person to toss in a helmet. Once I made it to the finance office the helmet cost was included and he even added a Warranty without even asking. After walking out the sales guy halfway made it right and the finance guy was ridiculously rude when I came back a few hours later. Overall, Drive somewhere else to purchase a bike.
called today to have my Suzuki quad serviced that I purchased there in 2006. It has been sitting for 6 years and wanted to get it serviced to use again. It only has 350 miles on it! They refused and said only 10 years or newer units are serviced there now. Well, you decide if you want to do business there. Definitely will not shop there for my next boat or anything else!!
