Motorcycle Buyer's Guide – Cheyenne Motorsports

Buying a motorcycle from Cheyenne Motorsports in Cheyenne, Wyoming? Follow this checklist before you commit.

  1. 1

    Verify the title and VIN

Check the VIN on the frame, engine, and title to confirm they match. Run the VIN through a motorcycle history report. Cheyenne Motorsports should be able to provide documentation for any bike in their inventory.

  2. 2

Check the fork seals and bearings

Look for oil weeping down the fork tubes — a sign the seals need replacement. Grab the front wheel and push/pull firmly to check for play in the steering head bearings.

  3. 3

    Inspect the chain and sprockets

A worn chain will have excess slack and the sprocket teeth will look hooked or pointed instead of rounded. Chain and sprocket replacement runs $200–$500. Factor that into your offer if it's needed.

  4. 4

Check tire age and tread depth

Look for the DOT date code on the sidewall — tires over five years old should be replaced regardless of tread. Tires are a safety item, not a cosmetic one.

  5. 5

    Take a test ride

Confirm the clutch engages smoothly, the brakes feel firm, and the bike tracks straight at speed. Listen for valve noise, exhaust leaks, or electrical issues. A short test ride catches problems a visual inspection misses.

Good communication and follow thru. I haven't had opportunity to test out the equipment yet, but I feel that the service was knowledgeable and concise. I purchased my unit at auction and they went through the 4wheeler to make sure it was in proper running order. They communicated well as to what was necessary and what was not.

I had a great experience, tried buying a bike in Laramie where the dealership tried tacking over a thousand bucks on in fees, but these guys not only sold me a better bike but sold it to me for less than their asking price! I will absolutely be back to buy again.

Everyone was friendly and there was no pressure from the staff to buy immediately. Dave, the owner, Nick, and Paul were all great! I was able to ask questions and get all the info I needed to make an informed purchase. I am super happy with my new bike and will absolutely be going back to Cheyenne Motorsports for any service I need.

I’m going against the majority but I was very disappointed with my experience today Jan 31, 26. I visited this place two times before to purchase an ADV motorcycle that I am interested in and they are the closest dealership for that brand. The first interaction with Nick was great. I just needed to do some more research. The second interaction was with a salesman, Dave. Little to no interest in showing me the bike, it was like pulling teeth asking for info and he kept stirring me towards another one I told him I didn’t like the specs and looks. Third interaction today, I was there with my wife (who made time for this so she could be co-signer) ready to purchase because of their 0% financing ends today. Dave showed no interest in wanting my business, no way to test ride because I didn’t bring a helmet (could have sold me one!) and because I only have a permit (he didn’t ask me if I had insurance or if I know how to ride (European license, hence the permit only), and didn’t even let me ride it in their fenced parking lot area. We walked out pissed and very disappointed as we felt they didn’t want our business. On the other hand the dealer in Fort Collins offered their private area for a test ride. So did the one in Laramie. First star is for Nick and his accent. The second star is for facilitating my choice to bring my money somewhere else. Thanks!
