Buying a boat from Winsel's Boats in Valdosta, Georgia? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Winsel's Boats which models suit the waterways near Valdosta, Georgia.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Winsel's Boats.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Winsel's Boats will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Winsel's Boats should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

I recently had the opportunity to do business with Winsel Boats of Valdosta. I was pleased with the friendly and professional staff of everyone that works there. The work that was done on my boat was completed in a timely manner and was completed in a very professional manner. I will continue to do future business with Winsel Boats of Valdosta. The work
True professional, made the process easy and comfortable. Winsel will always be my guy for future purchases. Good business!
Unimpressed by the least bit. Needing a carb clean and cable shifter replaced I dropped the boat off 2 weeks ago and received no phone calls. I called on day 10 and they said they would start the next day. Call the next day “oh, we will get to it tomorrow”. I went there in person on the 12th day to see no one working and they haven’t even looked at it yet much less give me a price. I asked when he would start and he gave me the run around again on it and wouldn’t give me his word when he would start. I then asked just to take the boat back only to realize they bent my brand new prop just installed a month ago with only 3 days on the water with it. What little they moved it they ended up making things worse. Never bring your business there.
I have been doing business with Winsel for over 20 years. Never had a bad experience. He is genuine and prioritizes customer needs and satisfaction. As a black man, the comment I see below on racism is not only untrue but ignorant. Winsel is fair to all.
We didn't purchase our Sea Hunt boat from Winsel's Boats only because at the time he didn't have what we were in the market for in his inventory. To say Winsel didn't try to locate exactly what we were in the market for would be an understatement. In addition to dedicating his time in trying to assist in finding exactly what we were looking for, he and his staff have been so very helpful with service and assistance with advice and installation of the major accessory add-ons that we have purchased from them. Whether you are simply purchasing a life jacket or searching for your off shore dream boat, I would highly recommend Winsel & his staff. Shop Local!!! You'll be glad you did.
