Boat Buyer's Guide – Village Motorsports

Buying a boat from Village Motorsports in Unionville, Virginia? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.

  1. 1

Match the boat to your waters

Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Village Motorsports which models suit the waterways near Unionville, Virginia.

  2. 2

    Inspect the hull carefully

Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.

  3. 3

    Check engine hours

Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Village Motorsports.

  4. 4

    Request a sea trial

Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Village Motorsports will accommodate this request.

  5. 5

    Verify title and registration

Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Village Motorsports should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

Made a deal over the phone on a new brute force since I was coming from over 4 hours away. Communication was amazing and pricing was unbeatable. They had the quad all ready for me when I got there and everybody was extremely friendly! Would definitely recommend this dealership!

Best powersports dealer in Northern Virginia. Have bought several side by sides here as well as had service done here as well. Always great support from sale, service, and parts.

Drove 2 1/2 hours to pick up my 1st Kawasaki, their OTD price blew me away compared to other dealers I contacted. Scott was a pleasure to deal with, I recommend Village Motorsports to anyone in the market for some fun!

Worst dealership I've ever been to... they wouldn't uphold a deadly crash recall on a 2017 model king quad 750. They advised me falsely into purchasing parts that it didn't need and insisted that they checked the stator which was the recalled part and said it was working fine. I spent over 800 dollars in parts and labor to fix what they recommended, and it still shut off exactly like the recall. We replaced the stator and now it's finally fixed. I would NEVER trust them with any of your machines. I will never be going there ever again for anything. Awful customer service on top of even more awful mechanic work and false diagnostics.

I brought my Kawasaki ZX-10R in for its 15,000-mile service and valve adjustment on August 21st, and I didn’t get it back until September 19th. Over the phone I was quoted one price, but after making the 2-hour drive to the dealership I was told it would actually be $130 more. I was originally told the work would take about a week. Instead, my bike sat in the shop for nearly a month, with very little communication unless I chased them down. Some of the downtime was blamed on “shipping delays,” but when I finally received tracking info, it became clear that parts weren’t even ordered right away — costing me more unnecessary time without my bike. At one point I was told a broken shim caused the delay, only to later be told there was no broken shim at all — just tight clearances needing new shims. I also asked multiple times for photos of the work, but those requests were ignored. On top of that, both service advisors I dealt with were unwilling to explain parts of the service to me and often tried to cut me off on the phone just to end the conversation. To top it all off, after a month of waiting, I picked up my bike and it was returned to me caked in dust. The bike does seem to be running fine now, but the misquote, poor communication, preventable delays, inconsistent explanations, dismissive service advisors, and lack of care for my bike’s condition left me with a really bad overall experience. If you bring your motorcycle here, be prepared for surprises in both cost and wait time.
