Buying a boat from TOMMY'S - CHATTANOOGA in Harrison, Tennessee? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask TOMMY'S - CHATTANOOGA which models suit the waterways near Harrison, Tennessee.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at TOMMY'S - CHATTANOOGA.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like TOMMY'S - CHATTANOOGA will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. TOMMY'S - CHATTANOOGA should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

DO NOT GO TO Tommy’s Boats Chattanooga. Originally I take my boat there and say I just bought it look it over do anything it needs. I get a bill for $2k, take it on the water and immediately says service required. Tommy’s says it must be a code they forgot to reset. Take out of water and put in the next day where it runs for a few hours and auto bilge warning kept coming on as well as service required. It ends up shutting off and I get towed in. Bring it back to Tommys where they say it was thermostat housing or something like that should be fine to pick up next day. Next day they say no it actually needs a whole new engine. I ask for proof or something they say there is none it must be an internal crack they should see it after they take it apart. So I have Tommys replace the engine and still the first day back on the water service required light comes on and auto bilge alert keeps turning on. Still taking on water. Tommys says they couldn’t find a crack after taking apart the engine. So I paid over $11,000 for my boat to still tell me service required and take on water. Absolutely the worst place to take a boat. First time I got it back there was oil all over the seats, and they didn’t put the cover on for the month it sat there. They said they’d do the engine swap asap and discount labor. It took almost a month to do, over two months total, and refused to discount the labor or give my boat back until I paid. Once again as soon as it gets on the water service required and auto bilge come on. They claim it must’ve broke after they fixed it HAH. My boats now at another shop being fixed after spending $11,000 to “fix” my boat. Save your time and money don’t go to Tommy’s. Review keeps getting taken down.
My husband and I had a great experience with the Moses team. Both Chris Ball and Mark spent a large portion of a busy Saturday answering questions over the phone to help ensure that when we made the drive from Atlanta everything would b ready to go. Everyone w came in contact with was extremely friendly and helpful. We can’t wait to get our new boat on the water.
Man, these guys are freaking awesome! Purchasing the boat was very painless. Chris B and the team made the process very easy and they have been extremely helpful with advice, maintenance, and support. Seriously, they are all great folks! You guys need to go over there and buy something. I highly recommend the business!
Not only does this place serve amazing products, but everyone truly acts like such a family. The second I walk in I'm filled with comfort and happiness. If you want to buy a boat then i can't express enough that you NEED to go here. They treat you so well and they personally helped me find my dream boat(plus a few more hats and shirts). When helping they're never pushy on which to buy they give you honest feedback. I recommended Tommy's boats to my entire family. While we mostly live 6 hours away it is worth the drive 100%.
While I didn't buy a boat from Tommy's, I highly recommend them!!! We drove 7 hours to look at a boat there and we were late due to rain on the drive up and the time change. They checked in with us multiple times to make sure we were ok. The staff stayed late to give us time to thoroughly check over the boat. The boat wasn't quite what we were looking for and they were very polite when we decided not to buy it. They didn't try to pressure or guilt us into buying the boat. They asked if we were interested in a new boat. Since we drove that far, we agreed to look at a couple of last years boats that were left over. We didn't want to rush into a decision so we told them we'd have to think about it and we would come back another weekend if we decided to buy it. Again, there was no pressure from them for us to buy it. They said they would rather us think about it and buy a boat that would make us happy. We haven't bought a boat yet, but we are still talking to them about one of last years models. I'm willing to drive 7 hours one way again, to buy from them, they were that nice!!
