Buying a boat from Sportsmans Marina in Hewitt, New Jersey? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Sportsmans Marina which models suit the waterways near Hewitt, New Jersey.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Sportsmans Marina.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Sportsmans Marina will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Sportsmans Marina should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

Rich the General Manager and his team did a great job with me on a brokerage boat. Even though it was not his own inventory, he treated me well and was great with communication and delivery of the vessel. Everyone at the marina is very friendly and genuinely seems to enjoy working there! He goes over and beyond to provide good customer service. I had a minor issue that was not the fault of his marina and he dealt with it quickly and professionally. Highly recommend this Marina.
Richard and his team were absolutely amazing to work with. My family bought a Tige 24RZX from Sportmans Marina and we are glad we chose to work with Richard and his team. Rich answered all of our questions and sent us pictures and video of the boat before I traveled from California to New Jersey to view the boat. Our purchase went smooth and his finance team worked behind the scenes to ensure titling and registration documents were correct and completed. We truly enjoyed our experience working with Sportmans Marina!
The staff was enthusiastic and professional when it came to bringing my oldie but goodie boat back to life. A 1969 Starcraft Falcon was resurrected and lovingly restored from my grandfather’s garage but desperately needed a new motor for reliability. Stefanie and Elmo were patient with the project, made meaningful suggestions of replacing the rotten transom and waited so I could add varnished plates under the motor mount which match the woodwork from the dash. I love how it turned out and the cost was very reasonable. I HIGHLY recommend Sportmans Marina and can’t wait to deal with them again for any of my future needs! They are truly the best.
I didn’t want to write this review. Truly. But after everything I went through at Sportsman’s Marina, I feel it’s necessary to share my experience, especially for others who expect fair treatment. To be fair, the marina itself is very clean and well-maintained, the view is amazing and most of the staff are genuinely kind and respectful. Robert, the assistant manager, was always helpful and professional, and Kayleigh at the front desk was consistently friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, everything changed after I requested a basic service on my boat, a starter replacement. The marina initially agreed to the work, gave me a clear estimate, and I approved it. I was present when we agreed to haul the boat out specifically for that purpose. Later, I was shocked to find the paperwork had been rewritten to claim they hauled the boat because it was “sinking.” That was entirely false. My boat had been docked without issue for over two weeks. No one had ever raised a concern about safety, and just days earlier, Rich, the manager, boarded the boat himself to turn off the lights and said absolutely nothing about any hazard. That would’ve been the appropriate time if there were truly a problem. Yes, my boat is older, but it was not unsafe or sinking. I never even moved it. I would simply sit in it, enjoying quiet time and working on my laptop. No staff member ever raised concerns to me, not once. Then came a revised estimate that jumped to over $7,000. I declined the new charges, and from that moment forward, I felt like I was being pushed out. My boat was never returned to the water. It was relocated to the farthest edge of the marina, on land, and I was denied access to my slip even though I had paid in full I was even charged a blocking fee for the boat being on land, a situation they themselves created. That charge was only slightly reduced after I had an conversation with Rich explaining how I felt I was being treated. Without my knowledge or permission, the marina even contacted my mechanic Eric directly and asked him to bring my trailer so they could move my boat outta there. This was done without notifying me or asking for my consent, which was completely out of bounds. Frustrated! I was forced to sell my boat. But every time I had buyers come to view it, GM Rich would interfere. He made comments that clearly discouraged the buyers and undercut me in front of them, including loudly saying, “It needs a hell of a lot more than what he’s telling you.” His tone was hostile and his words felt deliberately intended to sabotage the sale. When I asked Rich, in front of a potential buyer, if I could board the boat to close the windows before a rainstorm, he flat-out denied the request and looked annoyed that I even asked. He had my boat placed in the most remote part of the property, and I was told I needed to be escorted just to look at it. Every single time, Rich himself was the one who escorted me, and it was obvious he was irritated and bothered each time. (2 times) The worst moment came when I was out of town and gave someone permission to view my boat on my behalf. When I returned, Rich confronted me and said, “You’re lucky I didn’t shoot your muchachos for going onto private property.” That comment was threatening, completely inappropriate, and racially charged. Around the same time, I noticed my solar generator was missing. I tracked it using GPS and saw it last pinged at the marina office. I asked Rich directly and respectfully to return it. He immediately denied it and refused to help. Thankfully, a staff member later returned it to me and admitted that it had in fact been there all along. I no longer want to deal with boating at all this season because of this experience. That’s how much stress and disappointment this experience has caused me and my family. I have retained legal counsel who is currently reviewing all communications related to this matter and advising me on the next steps to take. While I cannot say with certainty why I was treated this way, I do feel I was discriminated against.
If your looking for a new wake boat I would definitely recommend buying a Tigé boat and I would buy it from sportsman Marina. Rich and Kyle will set you up with the perfect boat and Robin will make the paperwork side of it super easy. Sportsman Marina is a great team, from start to finish everything was very smooth and easy. My fiance and I went to sportsman Marina to demo a new Tigé boat over this past summer. We fell in love with the Z3, Rich and Kyle where great with helping us design the boat we wanted, It has all the features I have ever wanted and more, the fit and finish of a Tigé boat is amazing. Plus the performance side of the boat is hands down the best in the industry. We love our new boat and are very happy that we have a great dealership close by for service and future business.
