Buying a boat from Smitty's Marina, Inc. in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Smitty's Marina, Inc. which models suit the waterways near Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Smitty's Marina, Inc..
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Smitty's Marina, Inc. will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Smitty's Marina, Inc. should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

We had dinner at Smitty's. The food was absolutely delicious I mean out of the park delicious! Had a Philly cheese steak sandwich and it was perfect, juicy and done to perfection. The Lock 4 pizza was the best! Also the French fries that came with the meal was cooked perfectly a bit of an outside crunch but so soft and moist on the inside. I highly recommend Smitty's and we will be back again and again! The staff was so kind and attentive to our needs. What a GREAT PLACE TO ENJOY DINING!
Smitty's Marina is awesome. Bought my boat there in 2013 and would never take it anywhere else. Not cheap, but top notch care, and they will work with you to meet your needs and schedule. Danny in service is the nicest guy you'll ever work with. Carl, rest his soul, passed away, but was also awesome. The new owners are very nice and are working hard to make lots of improvements. Don't hesitate to buy a boat here, and get it serviced by these folks that will take excellent care of you and your boat!
10 out of 10 recommend!! Smitty’s Marina is fantastic!! Collin Peck and Danny were a pleasure to work with. Informative, patient, responsive, and friendly. I brought them our boat to sell on consignment and they were able to restore it to the point I almost didn’t want to sell it. They are extremely knowledgeable and so very helpful! I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Highly recommend for all your boating needs!!
Needed to get some mechanical work done on my boat and when I called Danny said they were pretty booked up so it wasn’t looking good. A few hours later he called me back and said to bring it down and he will do what he can but couldn’t give me an exact time it would be finished. 4 days later he called back saying it was ready to go, the price was reasonable, the work done was perfect and I even got a tour of the entire marina! If you ever need any work done definitely call and ask for Danny!!
I had an A+ experience purchasing at Smitty’s Marina. From the start, the showroom has been welcoming and the staff friendly. Colin has the knowledge and willingness to address my needs and the perfect pontoon for me. I am excited to return and launch this spring!
