Buying a boat from Short's Marine in Millsboro, Delaware? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Short's Marine which models suit the waterways near Millsboro, Delaware.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Short's Marine.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Short's Marine will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Short's Marine should be able to walk you through the paperwork.
Marine financing has unique terms. Here is what to know before financing a boat through Short's Marine in Millsboro, Delaware.
Typical Loan Terms
10 to 20 years for larger boats. Smaller boats are typically financed over 5 to 10 years.

10% to 20% is standard. Some lenders require more for older vessels.

We met Paul Spaghetti at Milton Fields Boat Show when we were looking for a pontoon boat. From the very first interaction, we knew he was our guy and Shorts Marine would be the place where we would buy our new Pontoon. Paul was very communicative and answered every question, no matter the time. His honesty and just being a real good person is one of the many reasons we also made the deal. If you’re in the market for a boat, make sure Paul is your sales man. We absolutely love our pontoon and looking forward to many adventures and memories with it! Thank you again Paul and Shorts Marine!
Exceptional customer service. I had a an issue with a purchase (my error) and the entire team (especially KellyAnne) stepped up and took care of me. I cannot say enough about the professionalism and courtesy I received at Shorts Marine. Even the guys in the service department were polite and helpful. This is where you should be shopping this season
