Buying a boat from Seattle Yachts - Seattle in Seattle, Washington? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Seattle Yachts - Seattle which models suit the waterways near Seattle, Washington.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Seattle Yachts - Seattle.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Seattle Yachts - Seattle will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Seattle Yachts - Seattle should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

The Port of Seattle's Shilshole Bay Marina is located on the scenic Puget Sound and only 20 minutes from downtown Seattle, an ideal location for Seattle Yachts to have an office. In fact, this was our first office to open in 1983 when Seattle Yachts was formed. Back then we were called "Sailboats At Shilshole", but of course now we list and sell more than just sailboats. We have several Yacht Brokers and Sales Specialists at our Shilshole Marina office, most of which have over 25-30 years of experience in the marine industry. So whether you are looking to purchase a new boat or sell your yacht...
We recently purchased a 32' aft cabin yacht through Seattle Yachts. Chuck Seaman was the broker. What luck for us to have Chuck's help with this purchase. Even though this was a pretty small boat Chuck worked over time to get us the best deal possible on the boat, arrange for two surveys, a skipper for training and even put in time and muscle to help with a few easy fixes. This was a great experience for first time boat buyers. Now we are sailing off into the sunset in our new boat.
We saw a sailboat on their website, contacted them a week in advance, I had to call them back twice instead of them pursuing us, we had to call them to make an appointment. We live by Portland Oregon so it was a long drive and we stayed in a hotel two nights. We were shown a yacht Friday and we were double booked after driving that far. Every yacht we were shown they said they wouldn’t recommend. They were late to every showing because they were listing other yachts on their website instead of paying attention to the customer in front of them. They are a couple who work together. Not going to mention names because I don’t do things that way. It’s called integrity. Just know that it was a disappointment to say the least.Don’t list your yacht with these people. We met them Saturday and they called in late, and when we finally got to the Marina, he got out of his vehicle, walked right past us without any acknowledgment, we stood there as he went into some building to get keys, and then started feeling like we were a nuisance. There were many yachts for sale, however they determined what we should see instead of what we might want to. They were arrogant and messed with the wrong couple because we have the means to purchase an expensive yacht. The whole experience was disappointing and really unprofessional. They bowed out on Sunday after they said we could meet them in Seattle to show us a couple more yachts. Don’t waste your time or your energy with these people. Their loss. Also, no follow up, which figures.
Single worst experience dealing with shady salesmen. Used Seattle Yachts to try to sell my boat. They found a buyer and we both signed the sale agreement then Seattle Yachts dropped off the face of the earth for a month. They wouldnt return texts, calls or emails from me. It's was incredibly stressful. I gave up my slip! The closing date came and went with no contact whatsoever from anyone. I called the owner of Seattle Yachts who assured me how terrible he felt and that he would have his manager deal with me solely. The manager called, told me that they felt terrible and that they would let me keep my boat at their docks for free while they had my boat on the market. At this time I was over it and ready to move on, but his deal sounded great, so I said sure. Then the MANAGER WENT SILENT. I called and texted him to ask what the next step was to get my boat over to his docks but never heard from them again. Its been a month. These guys are the worst. Steer clear.
After owning a Hunter 28.5 sailboat for 32 years, I decided now was time to sell my sell my beloved sailboat and purchase a larger sailboat. I found a sailboat I was extremely interested in. I called Seattle Yacht Sales and was soon introduced to the Sales Broker, Chuck Seaman. Chuck’s demeanor was very upbeat, optimistic and cheerful making him an easy person to work with. Chuck listened to the story of my 32 year relationship with my 28.5’ Hunter and how this boat was so important to me. He also considered my desires of having a larger sailboat. Chuck was always available to meet, text, e-mail or call me, making me fill I was his top priority. Chuck shared valuable advice when looking for my new sailboat and selling my old sailboat. Working with Chuck, I found the perfect sailboat for me, a 44’ Hunter Deck Salon. Chuck acted quickly to start the negotiations. I was grateful for his negotiation skills and attention to detail. I trusted Chuck’s judgement and skills, helping me to remain calm as possible during the entire process. Once a tentative agreement was made, Chuck quickly arranged for a timely mechanical and structural survey. Chuck was at my 28.5’ Hunter on the sales dock, when a young man approached him. The young man had found my sailboat on line in Yacht World and was very interested in purchasing it. Once again, Chuck sharpened his negotiation skills and he made it possible for me to sell my beloved sailboat. I can’t even imagine having a different boat Broker representing me. Chuck made the entire process seam smooth and seamless. I am sure his upbeat and easy going personality played a huge role. If I ever decide to sell my sailboat (in another 32 years), I will only contact Chuck.
Seattle Yachts is a cut-above yacht dealership and brokerage. Working with SY owner Peter Whiting, I found and purchased a Sabre 426 and am thrilled with the boat and the experience. Peter spent weeks helping me select then purchase this boat, and I was grateful for his partnership and attention. Happy to meet with me anytime, answering calls and texts every time; it was clear that my goals and questions were his priority. I eventually got to know most of the team at SY and everyone gave me the same attention. It has been a remarkable experience getting into this boat and now sailing in the PNW and I appreciate the help Seattle Yachts provided.
