Buying a boat from Port of Egypt Marine in Southold, New York? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Port of Egypt Marine which models suit the waterways near Southold, New York.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Port of Egypt Marine.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Port of Egypt Marine will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Port of Egypt Marine should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

We had a great experience when we purchased a new Grady White from POE, extremely professional, helpful and they made sure every detail is covered. Couple that with an extremely well run service department which we have now experience for a few years, they understand how to service Grady Whites extremely well in addition to a full staff of Yamaha service technicians.
Thank you for being so gracious. Everyone that we have met at your marina has been friendly and welcoming. Class Act.
Julie has been amazing from the pre-sale with trade-in and post sale with attention to detail and follow-up. It is rare in these times to have such a conscientious person in any industry- especially the boating industry! I am glad to be part of Julie's "Port-of-Egypt" family.
