Buying a boat from Port Harbor Marine - Rockport in Rockport, Maine? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Port Harbor Marine - Rockport which models suit the waterways near Rockport, Maine.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Port Harbor Marine - Rockport.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Port Harbor Marine - Rockport will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Port Harbor Marine - Rockport should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

I have purchased three boats from Port Harbor Marine over the years dating back to 1996. The first boat from South Portland and the last two from the Rockport team! Recently, my 2016 Boston Whaler required a new alternator. Once the issue was identified Mark and the team set up an appointment to have a technician come to my house the next day. The Rockport team has always done the “right thing” for me. I routinely call the Rockport office with questions and always receive a courteous, professional response! They have maintained, serviced and stored my boat for almost 10 years now! I highly recommend Mark and the Rockport team!
I bought my Suntracker Bass Buggy 16 DLX from Port Harbor Marine of Rockport in 2014. I've stored it there every year since. They've handled all my maintenence and repairs on both the Outboard and trailer ever since. They even juryrigged a repair to my trolling motor once. I have never been less than 100% satisfied.
Hi folks, I can not stress enough to NOT do business with these greedy crooks! Personally, I will never set foot in this place again! I called about borrowing/RENTING a gimball alignment tool for one day. They said they could help me out. To purchase it online costs $100, but couldn't wait for it to be shipped. I gave them a $100 deposit and brought it back next day. Then they tell me they wanted $100 per day to rent it. After a 15 minute argument, they relented and charged me $25. But they have already shown their true colors. Screw the customer, end of story. I promise to tell every last person I meet and know how they do business. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!
I needed a small, inexpensive part. They were very helpful to find what I needed and placed the order. When the part arrived, yheu promptly called. Upon pick up, wanted to make sure the part fit. Great customer service for a $24 transaction.
I have always had great service through Port Harbor Marine. We purchased a boat from them 5 years ago and have been totally happy with the purchase experience and the service thereafter. I felt the need to write a review after another great experience through Port Harbor. I was pulling my boat for the season when I was on the ramp and I noticed the trailer had very low tire pressure. I called Port Harbor looking for some advice and my call was dropped in the middle of a conversation with Justin due to bad reception. Before I had called back 5 minutes later he already had a technician heading to the ramp to help evaluate the problem and get my boat back to the boatyard. He fixed the problem and then followed us to the boatyard to make sure the trailer did not have an issue on the road. I was just looking for some advice and instead had a technician helping me almost before I could hang up the phone. I had such an almost unreal experience I felt the need to share it with the internet. Thanks again to Leonard, Mike, and Justin for the exceptional service.
