Boat Buyer's Guide – Philadelphia Boat Supply

Buying a boat from Philadelphia Boat Supply in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.

  1. 1

Match the boat to your waters

Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Philadelphia Boat Supply which models suit the waterways near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

  2. 2

    Inspect the hull carefully

Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.

  3. 3

    Check engine hours

Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Philadelphia Boat Supply.

  4. 4

    Request a sea trial

Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Philadelphia Boat Supply will accommodate this request.

  5. 5

    Verify title and registration

Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Philadelphia Boat Supply should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

I could write a book about these folks!! I was looking for a trailer and ended up with a boat. The price was too good to pass up! The boat had been sitting for a year and had a few issues but they went above and beyond to make sure it ran properly. The part I like the most is that they take you and the boat out on the water so you can see and feel how it runs. I even got some newbie lessons on the water in the process .

I purchased a new Suzuki 115 and couldn’t be happier with the buying experience. I had gotten multiple quotes from other dealers and all of them said that they’re 6 months to a year out on a motor. Philadelphia boat supply estimated 3-6 weeks and got the motor in less than 3 weeks. The instal was fast and very professional and it’s obvious that there is a great group of guys working there. I would highly recommend them for anyone looking for a new motor or service.

I have never ever seen a business this unprofessional, this disrespectful, this slow, and this much lies. I left my boat there for a 2 hour carb rebuilt issue ( their claim ) over 2 months ago, which was supposed to be a 2 week job for them and guess what, my boat is still there. First I thought I m being ridiculous for asking the process of the work supposedly done, and than I realized that they don’t want to fix my boat for some reason, which I believe is a race issue. Probably they don’t like my color, maybe ethnic back ground they thought I m from, or the look I have, which I look like middle eastern. I know after this post, they are going to try to charge me more and more money, for a boat that they didnt fix, and/or maybe lie at my face and make me believe that they fix the boat, until I take it to the water. No matter what, fixed or unfixed, I m getting my boat from that shop, the following Friday and wont be back even onto the street where that shop is. Probably they think I m going to pay them with pesos, not American dollars. I wish I could give zero stars.
