You can check my other reviews. I really don’t leave reviews like this. I bought a boat from Nelson Marine in August 2023 and paid up front for upgraded captains chairs and to have a custom cushion made for the back of the boat. These items were to be installed while the boat was stored with them over winter so that the boat would have everything when I picked it up from them in the spring. I went to grab the boat from them this spring (two hours there and back) and the captain chairs weren’t installed and there was no back cushion. I was told that I could either take the boat and then return with it in a couple of weeks, so another two hours of driving, or I could leave it with them until they obtained the seats and the cushion. I decided to lose a little bit of time on the water and leave the boat with them. I went and picked it up a couple weeks later and discovered after launching that the captains chairs have broken arm rests. Again, the only solution offered was for me to pull the boat out of the water and bring it back up to Nelson Marine and lose more time on the water. That was in May and it’s now August. I’m now being told that the parts to repair the chairs are still being processed (in transit?). I asked if I could bring the boat up at the end of the season and have Nelson Marine cover the storage cost to make up for the time wasted driving back-and-forth and having to deal with the chairs that were broken, when installed, for the entire season. I was told that wasn’t an option and that I’d have to pay over $1k to keep it with them over the winter if I wanted them to repair the defective merchandise that they sold to me. The boat cost over $60k when all is said and done. I never would’ve expected to get the “pound sand” treatment, even if I had paid half as much. I’ll update once the repairs are done. Hopefully 2024 is the end of this saga.
My dad has bought a few boats there and we always really liked their service. I have purchased two used boats privately, but I brought both to Nelson Marine to have them work on my boats and rig them the right way with my Terrova, Hummingbird, Garmin, a boat ladder, power anchor, and a second onboard charger. I was extremely happy with Jeff when he climbed in my boat with me and took notes about what I wanted and was willing to give me his two cents to make it perfect. Jeff even straightened out an issue with the 24v system I inherited from the previous owner. I needed their help as I was going to be fishing with a 4yr old and 6 yr old all summer - and both got their first walleyes last season!
Bought a Suzuki 6hp engine earlier this year online to be used on my first boat, and I needed to have the oil filter replaced after the first 20 hours of use.
