Buying a boat from Modern Yachts - Hampton Bays in Hampton Bays, New York? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Modern Yachts - Hampton Bays which models suit the waterways near Hampton Bays, New York.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Modern Yachts - Hampton Bays.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Modern Yachts - Hampton Bays will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Modern Yachts - Hampton Bays should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

Great place, clean, friendly and helpful people. Matt is the best and so knowledgeable about all boats. Ed and the whole service team are top notch and know their products. Will always recommend them.
We recently purchased a boat from Modern Yachts and everything was amazing ! Captain Billy was very helpful and communicative throughout the whole process including providing a virtual tour of the boat since we were not local, helping with the survey prior to finalizing the purchase, and personally delivering the boat to us! I would highly recommend the team for purchasing, selling and servicing beautiful boats!
Bought a boat two years ago from MY and sales and service staff were both friendly and knowledgeable. Upon delivery everything was set up and ready to go and in great working order. There attention to detail, even on a used boat, were excellent and they addressed all of my concerns. Thanks Modern Yachts.
I have been using modern yachts for years. The service I receive for my boat is top notch. Matt and Eddie are great & extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
Worse place to buy a boat. No warranty or insurance. I buy a boat a month later the motor broke down. It was a problem with the oil. It didn’t have no warranty. That’s the worse place not recommended.
