My experience with MarineMax at Wrightsville Beach has been consistently disappointing, and I think people should know what they’re walking into. I brought my Boston Whaler in for an alternator replacement, an issue I had already diagnosed myself, yet they still charged a diagnostic fee and an extremely high labor rate. But the bigger issue was the anchor latch repair. I asked them to clean one rusty screw. That was the entire request. We never discussed drilling larger holes or switching to oversized hardware. Without calling me, they went ahead and installed mismatched, larger countersunk screws that don’t match the boat, don’t seat correctly, and likely damaged the fiberglass. The lack of communication is what makes this unacceptable. I was later told they did it because one screw was stripped, but that doesn’t justify skipping a phone call. If they had asked, I would have told them to repair the gel coat and install the proper OEM hardware, not take a shortcut that alters my expensive boat... They then offered to quote me about four more hours of labor to fix the mistake they caused. The fact that the service manager still hasn’t reached out says a lot. And this isn’t the first problem I’ve had with them. On a previous visit, I paid $400 for a decal replacement, and they only replaced half of it, leaving the rest untouched. I didn’t complain then, but I probably should have. MarineMax at Wrightsville Beach has shown a pattern of poor communication, careless workmanship, and inflated pricing. They make changes without approval and don’t deliver the quality you’d expect. I won’t be returning, and I’d strongly recommend taking your boat somewhere else.

Just took delivery of our 17’ Montauk and I couldn’t compliment the team enough. Dean Ashton is easy to work with and kept us updated all the way through our 8 month new order process. Delivery day was like Christmas! MarineMax had our boat detailed, fueled, stocked with all safety equipment, lines and fenders sitting in the water waiting for Capt Adam and my family. He spent several hours explaining all the boat features and how to use it all. My wife was at the helm down the intracoastal and Adam gave her great instructions on handling and navigation. Finally, he worked with her on docking the boat and had her do it again until she was comfortable.
