Buying a boat from Knox Marine - Ltd in Fredericktown, Ohio? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Knox Marine - Ltd which models suit the waterways near Fredericktown, Ohio.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Knox Marine - Ltd.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Knox Marine - Ltd will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Knox Marine - Ltd should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

I purchased my boat from these guys in 2019 and have been going back every year for timely maintenance. They take care of me every time I go there without fail. They are skilled and worth every dollar. Highly recommended.
Top notch operation if you need your boat worked on and fix right the first time. These are the people to see very professionally and prices were very reasonable.
Drove from Chicago area to see a boat listed online. The guys at Knox were awesome to deal with. My husband started communicating with Corby before we took the trip and all information that he provided via email was 100%accurate. Once we arrived, Steve and Corby walked us through everything, explained every detail and we made the purchase. In an effort to get us on the road and headed home, at least 5 guys jumped in and got everything cleaned up and the boat covered. Everyone we dealt with at Knox were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We would definitely take the 6 hour trip to work with them on any future purchases. Thank you Corby, Steve, Mike and the rest of the staff for a seamless process.
Mike of Knox marine good guy hooked me up on a 9.9. Thanks will do business again.
The boat had a starting issue and Knox Marine was able to repair the problem caused by a mouse very quickly and for an extremely fair price. They also took the time to answer my question regarding another simple issue, even at the end of their workday. I have also registered my boat and canoe here with ease.
