Buying a boat from Hannay's Marine in Minneapolis, Minnesota? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Hannay's Marine which models suit the waterways near Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Hannay's Marine.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Hannay's Marine will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Hannay's Marine should be able to walk you through the paperwork.
Marine financing has unique terms. Here is what to know before financing a boat through Hannay's Marine in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Typical Loan Terms
10 to 20 years for larger boats. Smaller boats are typically financed over 5 to 10 years.

10% to 20% is standard. Some lenders require more for older vessels.

Purchased a 2025 G3 18CCJ DLX this spring. Tom was great to work with before the sale, and the support after the sale has been much appreciated. I rigged what I consider the ultimate shallow water river boat, I had a vision, and Hannay's made it a reality.
Service area demonstrates honesty. We had an apparent significant problem with a water pump on our outboard, but it turned out to be something simple. They stood behind their prior work, and it turned out to be no cost to us.
I recently bought a new boat. After taking possession of the boat and having it on the water, it became apparent that it had a serious hidden manufacturer defect. Hannay's was absolutely amazing! They were great to work with and the resolution was way beyond anything I had expected. Great group of people. I live quite a distance from their shop but will always bring my boat here. My experience has made me a lifetime customer.
Very knowledgeable person assisted me with my purchases. Took the time to listen to my concerns and responded with a great deal of professionalism. Impressive to say the least. Don't often get an employee in most retail establishments that have a lot of knowledge and are willing to listen and share information with you. Or, provide the Customer Service that you'd need.
Needed my outboard serviced, wanted a knowledgeable staff, wanted a place that takes appointments, and does the work quickly so I can get out fishing!. They met my requirements, totally satisfied. Thanks!
