Buying a boat from Grandpappy Point Marina in Denison, Texas? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Grandpappy Point Marina which models suit the waterways near Denison, Texas.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Grandpappy Point Marina.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Grandpappy Point Marina will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Grandpappy Point Marina should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

We had a 17' Glaspar that we kept on the Tennessee River and would trailer to northern Minnesota every summer. I remember the Sailfish, row boats and my dad showing me how to properly paddle a canoe. I entered the boat business back in 1977. Back then I was washing boats and painting boat bottoms. We spent weekends racing sailboats. We raced in all types of boats. I had such a great experience at the marina store thanks to Justin! He was incredibly professional, helpful, and knowledgeable. He took the time to understand what I was looking for and offered some fantastic suggestions that really made a difference. With his help, I purchased a cooler caddy, and I’m so excited to use it—it’s going to be the perfect addition for our boat days! Thank you, Justin, for your excellent customer service and for making the shopping experience so easy and enjoyable. Highly recommend asking for him if you stop by!
I didn’t stay in any hotel here, but I did use the marina. It is very well maintained and an awesome place, getting to it is a little difficult.
Very large secluded resort marina. Has everything you need. Needs some maintenance and repairs here and there but with inflation the last 4 years I'm impressed with how well they have kept up. Very nice quiet area of lake Texoma I hope they can keep up with the growth in the area.
Work retreat. Fishing and Golf were both fun. Cabins were nice.
The inside service takes forever. I know fast food places usually concentrate more on their drive thru's but the one and only in Denison, off of Hwy 75, geeeeesshhh!
