Buying a boat from Grace Marine in Le Claire, Iowa? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Grace Marine which models suit the waterways near Le Claire, Iowa.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Grace Marine.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Grace Marine will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Grace Marine should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

These folks are just the best. Just purchased a used boat and they did everything to make sure she was “sea worthy” before i took off. Excellent service. Excellent advice. Great mechanics. Carl Jr, Mary and all the folks who keep this operation humming are top notch . Thanks.
Just took delivery of a boat in Missouri from Grace Marine. Let me tell you, I have been looking to upgrade my boat for several years. I traded for a Crownline and could not be happier. Jeff worked with me, gave me a great price for my trade, and a great deal on the Crownline. Then he delivered it all the way to Missouri! This a family owned business that was amazing to work with. Highly recommend if you are looking for a boat.
We bought a new Barletta in 2022 and it was our first boat. We loved it and spent most of our time on the water in the summer. We had a great relationship with the Hoyt family and heard that it was time for Carl to retire and the dealership was sold to a gentleman who worked for the Hoyts as a teenager. What started out as a trip to meet the new owners of the dealership passed every test we could give them. Are they friendly? ✔️ Are the responsive to our needs? ✔️ Do they make you feel like family? ✔️ Will the go the extra mile when you need them to? ✔️ We were so pleasantly impressed with the DenBeston's, that we started a conversation about a boat that was sitting on their showroom, that just kept tugging at my senses saying, "This thing is a beauty, Take me home". Well, with two weeks of back and forth and never any real tense moments in the negotiations process, we were proud to be the owners of the first Barletta tritoon that the new owners sold. A 2025 Barletta Lusso 25UC with a 400 hp Mercury Verado V10. Honesty, Integrity, and treating you like family. That's how easy it is to do business with Grace Marine. Give them a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. And you know you bought the right boat when your home marina puts it in their advertising campaigns. 😀
One thing that I have learned is that if you own a boat you will run into issues! We bought our boat new from Grace and love the boat! But as I said if you own a boat you will have issues from time to time. We have always brought our boat back to them for service. This last issue, come to find out was simply a dead secondary battery that controls our hydraulic steering. We dropped it off at the shop and Carl Jr. made a special trip in on a Saturday after hours to get our boat back up and running so that we would have it for the next day. Great group of guys!
There is something to be said for dealing with local, family owned businesses, they just treat you right. Grace Marine is no exception, they are absolutely fabulous. If you are in the market for a new boat you have to check them out. I have bought from several boat dealers over the years and never had as good of an experience as I did with them. Carl at Grace Marine never once tried to pressure me, never tried to upsell me, nor did he play the numbers game. He was upfront. honest, reachable and made the buying experience 100% stress free. They know customer service and will treat you right from the first conversation through delivery. I am a customer for life.
