Buying a boat from CR'S Marine Service in Schenectady, New York? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask CR'S Marine Service which models suit the waterways near Schenectady, New York.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at CR'S Marine Service.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like CR'S Marine Service will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. CR'S Marine Service should be able to walk you through the paperwork.
Marine financing has unique terms. Here is what to know before financing a boat through CR'S Marine Service in Schenectady, New York.
Typical Loan Terms
10 to 20 years for larger boats. Smaller boats are typically financed over 5 to 10 years.

10% to 20% is standard. Some lenders require more for older vessels.
Pro Tip

Despite our many years of good service a recent experience changed my opinion of this established business. We brought our 17 foot outboard to C&R for winterizing and replacement of the trailer. It was returned on the new trailer with multiple chips and cracks. I brought it to a body shop for repair and called C&R’s owner Chris JUST TO MAKE HIM AWARE ..reinforcing with him that pwe were not looking for anything but just to give him the heads up. Chris immediately became defensive claiming that of course it was chipped and cracked as the old trailer collapsed….We considered his response very unprofessional considering the following: 1) We retrieved the trailer which was and is in tact …still have it 2) He claimed he was aware the hull was chipped and cracked when he returned it to us without bringing it to our attention. 3) The boat was professionally cleaned by a DIFFERENT business prior to changing trailers and it was not chipped or cracked when cleaned. I am saddened that Chris did not accept the notification in the spirit in which it was communicated. No need to be so rude and defensive when no one is looking for anything from you. I see your response to this review and I still wonder WHY you would return the boat like that without bringing it to our attention ….and again WHY wouldn’t you take a second to explain that when I had you on the phone …you just let us pick it up knowing it would sink when we put it in the water ? Appreciate the years of good service but clearly you have outgrown us…Best of Luck….2024 another great year on the lake with the boat that magically had holes in it after C&R replaced the trailer….no new holes …no new issues
All I can say is awesome, chris was busy and balanced a sale and offered great service all at the same time. Great place to do business. I bought a boat today, thanks chris, you rock dude!😁😁😁😁😁😎😎😎
Not nice to customers has a real attitude after you buy a boat and ask any questions.will never walk in that door again will travel anyoace that appreciate s your business.
It’s easy for a consumer to be happy and write great reviews when everything goes smoothly and as planned. Buying a new boat, routine service were all happy campers. I took a huge leap of faith and did something most people would call me completely crazy for. I fell in love with a boat on the other side of the country and I bought it. I talked with Chris the owner for months before making the purchase, he always made time for my calls, questions took videos , extra pics and never made me feel rushed or like I was wasting his time. We settled on a price , I had a survey done and I arranged to have the boat shipped 2,575 miles. I made the purchase and had the title a couple days later. Well the fun began once the boat got to my mechanic who specializes in these type of performance boats, let’s say this politely the surveyor was an absolute waste of money. I’ll try to make this short and sweet by saying several issues did arise after a detailed inspection and use over the next 30 days. Chris and I were able to discuss the issues, share info and figure out solutions. It is extremely rare in this day and age to find a business that truly cares about making sure their clients expectations are met or exceeded. If you find yourself working with this business your in good hands. -EE
I bought my new Lund last month. I started the process of buying the boat in January with a phone call from Florida. Over the next month or so I called many times to add or change accessories that I wanted on the boat and to ask questions about the electronics and other items of interest. All calls were answered quickly and advice was given promptly. The boat was prepped and ready for me in May when I picked it up and it was exactly as I wanted. Thanks guys, you have a customer for life.
