Buying a boat from Carey and Sons Marine in Granbury, Texas? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Carey and Sons Marine which models suit the waterways near Granbury, Texas.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Carey and Sons Marine.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Carey and Sons Marine will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Carey and Sons Marine should be able to walk you through the paperwork.
Marine financing has unique terms. Here is what to know before financing a boat through Carey and Sons Marine in Granbury, Texas.

10 to 20 years for larger boats. Smaller boats are typically financed over 5 to 10 years.

I had a really great experience with Fain. He was able to help me over the phone with a lot of questions and figure out the best boat for me. Once I met him in person. We really hit it off! Made me feel really taken care of. A few things were forgotten such as my ladder and my cover, but he sent me on my way with a ladder and said he would bill me later. He hooked me up with a lot of cool merch, and I got a killer Xpress 20ft bass boat! Fain, thanks for the shipping cover to last me until the new one comes in. It really was helpful! Thank you, buddy! What an excellent and super easy experience on purchasing a used boat. Fain was absolutely amazing and extremely professional. He took the time to show me boats I was interested in even after closing time. Never felt pressured or unwanted. Got exactly what I wanted and it was a pleasure going through the process with Fain. He should get a massive pay raise!!!
My husband went in to see if they can repair his trim control. The person he spoke to wasn't interested in new business and also commented that he prioritize repair on customers who bought boats from him and others have to wait. Went off on a different conversation and walked away. Why claim as a boat repair service if you don't want new business? Poor customer service and did not even recommend another repair shop.
I bought a used boat from them. Pictures looked better online than they did in person. But decided to go ahead with the purchase. I took the boat out once and it started spraying oil. Dealership said we'll you bought as is. How can I check for leaks or anything if it's not in the water. Lame business practice. Plus when I was there a Lady was complaining about there repair shop. Don't recommend unless you like to waste money. Update. Jul 02 boat motor has to come out oil drain plug rusted through oil pan. No response from owner.
Just checking the reviews to see if they have changed their ways. Bought a boat from them a few years ago,and I see they are still terrible and so many bad reviews with bad reputation in Granbury. They did not honor warranties and never owned up to their mistakes. Looking for a new boat and was hoping they had sold to a good dealer.Love Marine Max but too far away for delivery.
