Buying a boat from Big Boys Play Toys in East Palatka, Florida? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Big Boys Play Toys which models suit the waterways near East Palatka, Florida.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Big Boys Play Toys.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Big Boys Play Toys will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Big Boys Play Toys should be able to walk you through the paperwork.
Marine financing has unique terms. Here is what to know before financing a boat through Big Boys Play Toys in East Palatka, Florida.
Typical Loan Terms
10 to 20 years for larger boats. Smaller boats are typically financed over 5 to 10 years.

10% to 20% is standard. Some lenders require more for older vessels.

I want to give a huge thanks to Big Boy Play Toys and their Honda outboard service department. While I was down in the Bahamas dealing with a Honda outboard issue, Alex took the time to walk me through real troubleshooting over the phone. I was chasing both a fuel delivery issue and then a cooling issue, and Alex was more than gracious with his time and knowledge, helping point me in the right direction when I really needed it. This is the kind of service you just don’t find everywhere anymore. I wasn’t standing at their counter, and I wasn’t actively buying parts at that moment — yet they treated me like a valued customer anyway. If that’s how they support someone hundreds of miles away, I can only imagine how well their regular customers are taken care.
Big Boys are my go to guys for anything related to my boat. They’ve worked with me on my vacation schedules, getting issues resolved last minute before family comes in town at reasonable/ fair prices. Rodney, Alex, Jason, Chris are great people. I refer them to anyone.

We bought a boat from them 2 months ago and have been so happy with them and the boat! When going to look at it they even let us throw our pup in it to make sure she would fit with her life jacket on! The staff is so friendly and helpful! They are honestly the nicest people. We will only be going to them in the future! We love our ALK!
