Buying a boat from Amity Harbor Marine Inc in Amityville, New York? Use this guide to evaluate any listing before you commit.
Match the boat to your waters
Pontoons and deck boats suit calm lakes. Deep-V hulls handle chop on larger lakes and coastal water. Center consoles are versatile for fishing. Ask Amity Harbor Marine Inc which models suit the waterways near Amityville, New York.
Inspect the hull carefully
Look for stress cracks, blistering, or repairs on fiberglass hulls. Check the transom for soft spots by pressing firmly — a solid transom feels rigid. Osmotic blistering costs thousands to repair.
Check engine hours
Inboard and outboard engines are typically rated to 1,500–3,000 hours. Low-hour engines with service records are worth more. Ask to see oil change and winterization records for any boat at Amity Harbor Marine Inc.
Request a sea trial
Test the boat on the water before buying. Run it at full throttle. Listen for unusual noises. Check that the throttle and steering respond smoothly. Reputable dealers like Amity Harbor Marine Inc will accommodate this request.
Verify title and registration
Ask for the current title and confirm the hull identification number (HIN) matches. Check for any liens with your state boating agency. Amity Harbor Marine Inc should be able to walk you through the paperwork.

I bought my first boat from Rob and couldn’t be happier. With me not knowing anything, Rob did an amazing job getting me into a boat that fit my needs. I settled on a 21 ft CC in April and this past summer was one of the best we have had as a family. The entire process was flawless. The whole team is great. After the first month, I had an electrical issue, which was very minimal, but having no experience with boating, it was a big issue for me. I called Rob and he told me to bring it in and they took care of it within a couple days. I am already looking for a bigger boat for next season and the first place I will go back to Amity Harbor Marine.
Amity Harbor Marine made buying our used boat a breeze! Their team was friendly, knowledgeable, and transparent, ensuring we got a great boat in excellent condition. The process was smooth, and they went above and beyond to answer our questions. Highly recommend them for anyone looking for a quality used boat!
0 stars if we could! Terrible, Not Trustworthy!!!!! Easiest cash deal that they made so complicated !! They should have “did you wire the money tattooed on their backs“ First they lied and said the boat had an owner, which, in fact, they owned it. Then they lied and gave us FAKE invoices, stating a bunch of “warranty” work was done and the so-called “owner” agreed to pay all the labor. LIE!! We confirmed with Mercury that our motors never had any parts sent to their Marina for our boat. Two other reputable mechanics confirmed none of the work stated was ever done. They just gave invoices to make you think it was done.!! For a sale! Rob the owner sold us the boat without a title which took us seven months to get cleared up. Our state was basically laughing at how they did this transaction at three different DMV agencies He was forced to get a title so he could transfer it to us finally. Shady, aggressive and seems somewhat illegal how he runs this business. New York, you should really look into this business !! The worst !!
Stay away from this business at all costs! My husband and I bought a boat from them, and prior to the purchase, they were extremelyaccommodating, promising to fix any issues. However, once the transaction was completed, they rushed us into obtaininginsurance so they could begin the fiberglass repairs. We went along with it, but our boat was left in freezing water for more than two weeks in February. After my husband voiced his concerns about the hold-up, they finally started the fiberglass work, which was done poorly and started to crack the very next day. When we asked for a resolution, they tried to get us to sign the boat's title, which felt misleading since signing would mean they could avoid completing the fiberglass repairs. They also pressured us into signing a good will agreement, even though the repairs were already included in our sales contract. Oh and the sales contract we signed the owner had no knowledge of it. There’s alot more to this situation, but the main point is to avoid this place. They are solely interested in your money and are extremely greedy. I honestly hope they go out of business.
Worst customer service. I sold a boat through Amity. Company refuses to mail or wire the funds from the sale. Insists that I personally drive to pick up the check although I live over 2 hours away (I checked google maps), work every day, and have a family to take care of. I asked that the money either be wired or mailed to me at the address on the title, and if fraud was a concern I would waive any liability issues in writing. The owner "Ron", who refused to tell me his last name, just kept repeating that it was their policy to have customers come in to physically pick up a check and that he would not budge. I tried to reason with our sales agent, John Noonan, and said "what if I was selling the boat because I moved to California, would you make me fly back to pick up a check?" He said "yes". This company is a joke. FYI: when I was paying their fees for storing my boat prior to the sale, I didn't make them drive to my house to pick up the check for the fees. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.
