2025 Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless Review: Offshore Performance Meets Boston Whaler Reliability

2025 Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless Review: Offshore Performance Meets Boston Whaler Reliability

Overview

The 2025 Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless represents Whaler's mid-range offshore offering—large enough for serious offshore fishing in 4–6 foot seas, yet compact enough to be manageable for an experienced two-person crew. It's the model that defines the offshore day-boat category for performance-conscious anglers.

Offshore Hull

The 270 Dauntless uses a sharp deep-V offshore hull with a 22° deadrise at the transom. This aggressive entry cuts through ocean swells that would stop smaller boats and delivers a predictably dry, controlled ride in the 3–6 foot sea conditions common on coastal offshore grounds. The hull's length-to-beam ratio provides excellent directional stability at speed.

Power & Performance

The 270 Dauntless is rated for twin outboards up to 250 hp each—typically fitted with twin Mercury Verado or Yamaha F200 units. With twin 200 hp engines, top speed approaches 50 mph and range at cruise speed extends well beyond 200 miles, opening up offshore grounds 50–70 miles from shore.

Fishing Capability

The fishing package is comprehensive: a 90-gallon transom livewell, multiple fish boxes with 300+ pounds of capacity (insulated), integrated rod storage, outrigger prep, and a transom door for landing large fish. The 270 can carry enough ice and live bait for a full offshore day trip targeting tuna, mahi, and offshore bottom fish.

Overnight Capability

The console includes a standard head compartment and optional berth storage—not a full overnighter, but sufficient for early departures and late returns without needing marina facilities. The console helm is fully enclosed, protecting the crew from spray and weather at offshore speeds.

Bottom Line

The 2025 Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless is a purpose-built offshore fishing machine that happens to also serve as an excellent family day-boat. For serious anglers who chase fish offshore with regularity, it's one of the most capable boats at its size and price point.
