Shopping for a vehicle at AP Automotive in Cary, North Carolina? Follow these steps to buy with confidence.
Pull the vehicle history report
Run a CARFAX or AutoCheck report using the VIN before you visit. Look for accident history, odometer rollbacks, and title brands like salvage or flood. Ask AP Automotive if a report is available for any listing.
Take a thorough test drive
Drive on both city streets and the highway. Accelerate hard. Brake firmly. Listen for any clunks, vibrations, or warning lights. Test the AC, heat, and all electronics during the drive.
Inspect for hidden wear
Check for uneven panel gaps, mismatched paint, or overspray — signs of past bodywork. Push on each corner of the car to test the shocks. Look underneath for frame damage, fluid leaks, or rust.
Get a pre-purchase inspection
Have a trusted mechanic inspect any used vehicle before you buy. A $100–$150 PPI can uncover issues that save you thousands. Ask AP Automotive if a third-party inspection is permitted.
Negotiate the out-the-door price
Focus on the total out-the-door price, not the monthly payment. Understand every fee on the sales contract before signing. Dealer add-ons like paint protection and VIN etching are negotiable at AP Automotive.
Auto financing is competitive. A little preparation before visiting AP Automotive in Cary, North Carolina puts you in a stronger position.

The service is unmatched! From beginning to end everyone was courteous! My daughter got a nice ride for a reasonable price. She is pleased, I’m pleased, we’re all pleased! Swing by and check them out y’all !
WARNING - Do Not Buy From This Dealership Our experience with AP Automotive has been a continuing nightmare. They sold us a car with dangerous, undisclosed safety issues. While they only mentioned a brake light issue (which they shouldn't even let us drive off the lot to start with), a mechanic later found two tires were worn past state inspection limits and a brake pad sensor was completely ground down, making the car unsafe to drive. To make matters worse, we paid $300 for a 1-year Powertrain warranty. The saleslady "Samia," only gave us an application, promising we'd receive the actual agreement by mail—which never arrived. They also used a different zip code on the arbitration agreement than their official address, a suspicious tactic that could delay or prevent opt-out letters. BTW, signing this agreement waives your right to bring them to court, so don't sign it. Asking buyers to sign this should tell you something about the dishonesty in their DNA and the length they go to avoid legal trouble (look at all the 1-star reviews here). When we tried to get them to fix the car, they repeatedly failed to schedule a service appointment by text (we need detailed written confirmation by this point, as we don't believe anything they say over the phone), forcing us to pay for the critical repairs out-of-pocket. After this ordeal, we discovered AP Automotive has an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau due to 8 other unresolved complaints. This confirms their pattern of broken promises and dishonest practices. Avoid at all costs.
We bought a car from here. The water pump went two days after we purchased our vehicle and left us on the side of the road. We had to pay for a tow truck to take it back to the dealership. They acted like they were doing us a favor by fixing it. Also stated, we are giving it to you at such a deal… After that lights came on on the dashboard. We have spent more to fix this car than what we paid for it. Not worth the worth the headache. This vehicle will not pass inspection (still has temp tag!) What a nightmare.
Absolutely no stars. Sold me an absolute lemon. Car broke down under 30 days and needs a new engine. Horrible people with no integrity and cheat people out of their hard earned money. I am desperately in need of transportation now! while they refuse to do anything or call back. I have been calling and now I am blocked. They said they knew something was wrong with the car! Crooks. BEWARE AND SEARCH ANYWHERE ELSE TO AVOID BEING SCAMMED BY THESE THIEVES!!!"
Made me pay my own carfax because theirs was “down”. Didn’t take it out of the final price because “it’s expensive”. The vehicle I bought drove okay for a month then many issues and codes popped up. I asked if they inspect the vehicles prior to selling to which they replied “yes”. However it is clear they did not. My only experience with the vehicles prior was the test drive. If I could give 0 stars I would
