On Dec 23, 2025, my son purchased a 2013 Subaru from here. Before taking the vehicle for a test drive, my son and I inspected under the hood and checked the interior of the car, including the lights, heater/AC, seat belts, tires, etc. We noticed that the front tires were in very bad condition. The manager, Frank, made a phone call while I was there and asked someone if they had two tires. After the call, Frank stated that he would send us to get the tires replaced and handed my son $100 back along with an address. When my son went to that address the next day, it turned out, that the place wasn't a tire shop. After completing our inspection, my son test-drove the vehicle and everything seemed fine, so he decided to purchase it. We returned to the office with Frank and completed all the necessary paperwork. My son handed Frank+ in cash. When the topic of a warranty came up, Frank stated that my son had 90 days to purchase one and handed us a flyer with the information that was sitting on his desk. Once the paperwork was complete, we were waiting for Frank to give my son the keys so we could leave and return our rental car. He then stated that he was going to take the car to fill up the gas tank and would be right back. About 20 minutes later, Frank returned with the car. As we were preparing to leave, he told us that we needed to wait an additional 5-10 minutes for his mechanic, Larry, to arrive. When we asked why, Frank stated that his mechanic needed to run a diagnostic test because three warning lights were on the dashboard and, due to safety concerns, he could not allow us to drive it off the lot. I immediately told Frank that when my son and I test-drove the vehicle, there were no warning lights on. He responded by saying it was "just a sensor" and that it would not take long- he only needed the code numbers. After waiting 15 more minutes, Larry arrived, plugged in the diagnostic machine, and stated that it was a sensor issue. My son was told to drive it for 50 miles and, if the light did not go off, to bring the car back and they would take care of the problem. Later that night, I told my son to go outside and take pictures of the warning lights on the dashboard. When he turned it on, the lights were off. However, the following day, after driving and parking the car, the lights came back on. By that point, my son had driven the 50 miles. He contacted American Auto Group to inform them that the lights were still on and was told someone would call him back. By December 26th, he had not received a call, so he went to the dealership in person. At that time, he was told the issue was a CVT transmission problem. Frank stated that he would speak with his mechanic and contact my son to schedule an appointment. No one contacted him. On Saturday, January 3, my son and I returned to speak with Frank about when he planned to resolve the issue and fix the vehicle. Frank was not present, so we spoke with Denise, who left a written message for Frank to contact my son. My son did receive a call later that day and was told he would be contacted on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 10:30 AM. He did receive a call and returned to American Auto Group on January 6, 2026, but once again, he was given the runaround. The fact that there were no warning lights present during the test drive, that my son paid cash, completed all paperwork, and that the warning lights appeared only after Frank took the car to the gas station raises serious concerns. Frank also acknowledged that the vehicle could not leave the lot due to safety concerns until the mechanic arrived, yet later stated the issue would be fixed if it persisted. This leads me to believe that he was aware of the problem prior to selling the vehicle and proceeded with the sale anyway. As of today, it has been 15 days since my son purchased the vehicle, and he is unable to complete the emissions testing because the car will not pass inspection. I would STRONGLY advise anyone looking to avoid purchasing a vehicle here. Update: Conditions are worsening as of Jan 11, 2026.

I would like to start by saying Maria in sales is amazing. Very polite and made this process very easy and simple . She awnsered all my questions , concerns and even things I ain’t even think to ask . Matt in finances can get you what u need . He took just about maybe a hour to finalize my deal even got my payment down lower then first stated . He was straightforward with the process and got me out as a happy camper. Lastly Brian the owner truly for the people . Willing to help where he can and also very much apart of the process made me feel more comfortable to know he cared enough to see it through till the end . I wouldn’t look too much into these negative reviews . I would say to go there yourself and see how great they are and what they can do for you . I gotta admit they almost stopped me from going but I can see I’m happy I decided to have my own mind cuz I found a fantastic car … THANKS AMERICAN AUTO GROUP !!!!!!!

Seemed to be honest and the purchase process was smooth and I was hoping, I came to the right place. However, they never disclosed issues with the title and by the end of temporary registration (Friday) claimed sending it via FedEx overnight and even gave tracking number. As of Sunday, FedEx never received the package. The temporary registration expires on Tuesday and I was not offered an extention. Now I see I made a mistake to trust this dealer.

I took a family member here, and all I can say is NJ is the worst state to have buy here pay here. This family member looked at 2 vehicles and both look like they would be a problem within the next couple of weeks. Huge amounts of rust, underneath and around. Some cars were dirty inside but being advertised as ‘for sale’. I mean it tells you something when you’re the only person there and no other customers. This ain’t no hidden gem. It’s super said how these places take advantage of people with repossessions, low credit scores, and ridiculously high interest rates/payments. DO NOT DO IT! It’s a financial nightmare ready to happen. Try hard to save, catch the bus, walk, uber, but don’t sign your name on any paperwork from here. 💙💯

This place was recommended to me by my bank where i had financed my vehicles before. I was needing an update to my 2009 vehicle that i had for almost 6 years. My bank sent my info to this dealership and Matt contacted me and told me, i got you a car. I was so happy specially after going to 2 dealers prior to his call and them asking for high down payments... Matt and Michelle helped me and didnt make me waist my time driving from PA to NJ at all. I walked out with my update, a 2017 vehicle. Thank you so so much!!!! **People you got to understand, when you walk to a used car dealership that you are buying a used car so it will obviously come with some problems or issues. The good thing of this place is that they have their own mechanic (Michael amazing guy too!!) Plus you get warranty so whatever you feel o see wrong let them know respectfully, and they will help you like they did with me 😊🙏. Communication is the key!!!! For me it's better buy a used car in a dealer that offers me warranty, then buying a car cash on the streets with no warranty, plus now i would've to come up with the money to fix all those problems that a used car will bring so, pick your battles wisely!!!!
