Malcolm Hudson began his fishing career back in 1929 down on Plum Island Point. For a dollar a day he would row you out in his wooden dory to fish for mackerel and pollack. The bait of choice back then was sand eels, and Malcolm and his wife Beverley, out of a pitched tent and still on the Point, were selling eight quarts of sand eels for twenty five cents. As business grew the need for a larger boat was evident. In 1934 his first custom boat, a Downeaster with a 90 HP Gray Marine engine became a reality. The fishing party boat business was sold in 1972.
